Forums - Sony - Trophies: Sony's biggest let down, 2008.

@BrainBoxLtd

OK Ill have to retract me stating the harder levelling up as you get higher as its not officially confirmed. As it stands, you get higher levels faster with Gold then Silver then Bronze in that order and thats it. Sorry if I misled anyone.

I stand by the fact that its more complicated, but I think I am starting to see what you mean and that it could be better in the end.

Each game would have more individuality and the level/number of trophies will determine how difficult that game is.

So based on my previous example, SSHD has 2 G, 6 S and 9 B. Now if Siren gets 5 G, 10 S, 10 B, then this tells me that its about 2-3 times harder and I can raise my level 2-3 times more because it has that many more Gold trophies.

The question then is, for games like Avatar, will the developer allow ALL their trophies to be Bronze as this is almost an insult to the developer that their game is shit easy and not worth playing? Also licensed games, will they allow Bronze throughout?

Another question is how does platinum contribute to your level. Isnt a platinum for Siren then worth more than a platinum for SSHD?

If they really implement it this way, then it could be the end of whoring as there wont be enough Bronze to level up.

Anyway, too much is unknown now and I will await further games to come. But its fun discussing this with you (and I hope you dont plan to totally quit the GS league!)

Personally, the trophy system beats the shit out of gamerscore... Unlike what twesterm pointed out, sure you have no idea what level 4 means, but the fact that the different trophies are ranked by difficulty is amazing. 5000 gamerscore can me some douche rented 500 games and got a shitload of 10 point achievements, I mean is it really "gamer score" or find the fastest way to milk points..

At least with trophies you get the final reward, or should I say, basically the only one that matters once you get EVERY other trophy the game has to offer. You get that friggin platinum trophy, which when comparing to friends, separates the boys from the men :P (I don't agree with this paragraph at all, I think comparing digital points is well... pointless... I'm just saying to iterate a... point... shit too many points)

But anyway, take it easy on the OP guys :P He was showing a concern, yes a silly one given the situation, but a concern none the less... no need to be ravenous :P

Erm... its the same as people getting 1000 G in games like Dead Rising, Ninja Gaiden 2, Devil May Cry 4 etc. etc. ALthough it doesnt show in the total, people will know when they actually compare the actual games.

And what happens when I get a Platinum for Avatar, King Kong, Lost and CSI versus your Platinum in MGS4? Am I a man and you are a boy because I got 4 Plats vs your 1 Plat?

I can't believe people are arguing so much about an e-penis. Honestly, other than maybe comparing what you've accomplished in a game compared to your friends (why you would want to compare with complete strangers is beyond me), do you guys REALLY care that much about how the system works?

Do you guys go play games online and think you are the shit because you have a higher gamerscore/more trophies than that other guy?  What's the point of ANY of this?  Other than my aforementioned comparing accomplishments with your friends, which both (gamerscore/trophies) do perfectly well.

They are a great way to share experiences of a game with your friends and for those who dont have any online friends, to make some. Its not always about being competitive. If you look at our Gamerscore league posts, youll see theres more sharing/helping than gloating.

Man, if that's their biggest disappointment, Sony must be on roll considering how worthless trophies are....

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

Seems like they woulda got a lot of trophy supported right when it launched... it was a mistake. But it'll come... eventually.

I'm pretty sure that a platinum trophy is just a platinum trophy, no matter where you got it from.

No, that makes you 10x the man, because those games suck ;) and we know you completed them. That makes you a god amongst men. And quite the tooper I might add :D To see and unlock EVERYTHING that a game like that has to offer, that's the definition of hardcore :D Not 1000 gamerscore, not some generic addition to a total score, but a PLATINUM TROPHY IN LOST!!! That states, that when you played that game, going for gold wasn't good enough for you. Gold is for pussies. You took the medals from 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, ate them for breakfast, and SHIT WINNER.

From 0 to KICKASS in .stupid seconds.

It's unfortunate more games don't currently support them, or at least have patches coming out sometime soon. I've played Super Stardust HD 5x longer than I would have without them.
