Forums - Sony - Trophies: Sony's biggest let down, 2008.

If the trophy system is optional, I'm expecting to see a lot of games without the trophies built-in. MSFT has a mandatory policy about achievements and that's the only way to make it work.

I don't mind waiting for new games coming out and supporting trophies.

Achievements are nice but don't mean much as it's a well known fact that the majority of the top 1000 players worldwide with the most achievements got them through trading save games. A thing that will not work to get free trophies on the PS3...

As for trophies being mandatory I believe a Capcom rep said their futures games would support them as trophies support was part of the deliverable in their contract. The only question is when will that kick in...

PS : Someone was asking earlier in this thread what it takes to get 5000 gamerscore. The answer is easy, get 5 saves games on the web. It will take you a whole 15 minutes...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

Stop crying. IDK if u r being genuine or trolling, whichever it is, its bad. Like ppl said, it's been 3 weeks, by the time the month is release, there will be another game with it (pixel junk eden). Uncharted's trophies are done and are being tested and they are slated for a mid August release. All that time just to test the already done code. So it seems that it's not that quick and simple to make trophies like u claim. This topic fails.

Hmmm. Trophies: a failure of implementation, or a clever ploy to boost sales of Super Stardust HD? You decide.

xD

Funnily enough, I just got around to buying SSHD...and it had nothing to do with trophies.

Same, I bought SSHD first day, I was soo hyped for this game. Same thing with Pixel Junk Eden.

If they would of waited any longer I would of been really annoyed. I dont have a trophy yet either but im fine wiht wiating since i know its out. Most future games will all be getting them so its fine.

So, you would have been annoyed if they had waited any longer to introduce trophies, but now you're fine, even though only ONE game has trophies, and even though YOU have NO trophies, because at least they do exist for that ONE game?

Okay, just wanted to clarify.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

I am actually VERY happy there is no trophy support.

I love how they did this.

Instead of spending a crap load of time downloading one patch after another they staggered the patches so its not hours of downloading time at once.

intentional or not I'm still happy how it played out.

Considering Sony is focusing on first party... and Im sure developers would transfer achievments into trophies for multiplats considering it raises sales.

How?

Well A. not as many used copies because people are replaying the game. B. not as many rentals because the replay value. C. people looking for cheap games to play through to raise their gamercore/trophies. (when the title gets older)

No, I just think the overall system isn't good.  With achievements you have thing that are worth a specific amount, which trophies they are some obscure amount.

What does it take to get 5000 gamer points?  A lot of work.  What does it take to get to level 5?  I have no fucking clue.

I guess it's just a matter of do you like more abstract or exact.

Yeah it's a good start and I really hope a lot of older games get patched/new games get trophies but it just seems like MS' system is better.

The thing is even if it's not public there probably is some exact criteria for levels.

As in Level 4 requires X points and that could be Y silver trophies or (Y - 1) silver trophies and a bronze or something weird like that. Breaking trophies down into gold/silver/bronze (especially to display in Home) is a good idea but an overall GS would be nice.

What does it take to get 5,000 points? A lot of work? How would you know that? Its a comparable thing. points are just as abscure. You only know it takes work because you have done it and you can compare what it took you. Same thing with trophies. After I get my level to 5 I will know what other people had to go through.

Basically if you tell someone who knows nothing of each system "This guy has 5,000 gamer points and this guy has 20 trophies" the person wont know what the hell you are talking about for either one.

anyways 5,000 points... isn't 2 hours of gameplay for FN3 worth 1,000?

I hate the fact how there's only one game that supports trophies. I tried the demo out, disliked it. Im not going to spend 20$ just to earn trophies on a game i won't enjoy ( all add ons and there trophies to get the platinum, what?? ). I also dislike how a crapload of past games are not patching in for trophies, especially GRID, it came out last month!! Also Devil May Cry 4, it had an already established " accomplishment " setup that was slightly integrated into PS3's OS. WTF CAPCOM. Although these past discrepancies, its harsh to call it the biggest flop of 2008, Uncharted ( too bad i sold it ) Warhawk and Burnout, a few games that i know of are getting trophy support. All Sony has to do is give out moneyhats to developers for future titles ( unlikely ) Lets just hope titles that are coming out now get it, i don't think Elefunk has them WTF SONY ??!!
