You guys please get back on topic. Both consoles allow for Jrpgs to sell, but the wii would probably be the better option for most. Lets argue about how the games will benefit on both consoles rather than how they will sell.

I think, if someone wants a HD jRPG a much better option would be Xbox360/PS3.

What? Do you mean if somebody wants to make an HD JRPG? or IF somebody wants a console for HD JRpgs. Either way  I agree.

Here are things that will be benefited from both consoles that I thought of.

Turn Based Rpgs-WII
IR Pointing(Allowing for quicker menu selection)

...moving on

Some gestures in between during battles. This would probably make it more fun. Like lets say you are trying to do a special attack, but you must get the gesture right for it to work correctly. This would also use the ir, and motion controls. I think it could add something refreshing to turn based rpgs, and definitely worth the lesser quality graphics(that could still look better btw if the art style is nice).

In other words, making special moves a novelty? After the 3rd or 4th time, it would just become an annoyance. The way FFX handled Overdrive's was perfect and something similar to that would be fine.

Turn Based Rpgs- Hd Consoles.
Graphics- Most Jrpgs that aren't final fantasy don't need technically impressive graphics. A good art style could make up for this. The superior power of the other consoles does allow for developers to have more power to express their art style. So I would give it to that.

There is more to Graphics then simple the  raw aesthetic appeal of its characters. There is the opportunity to have tons of stuff happening at one time, interactive and sprawling environments and just the all-around technical aspects of the game.

Action Rpgs- Wii

Full-Blown Motion Controls- In games that have alot of enemies I could see main attacks being mapped to the A or B button, then specials or magic being mapped to motion controls. For games that don't then I could see motion controls being used for everything.

The first option of a mix of buttons/motions is hardly a benefit. When I'm in the heat of battle, I want to be able to get my special attack off quickly. Not wag my hand around and hope the game picks up the motion. (it works in Smash Bros because of the pace and style of the fighting) As for the second option of total motion control fighting, if you put that into a game like Kingdom Hearts, you would have to take frequent breaks. My wrist/arm is sore after long sessions of Boom Blox, I could only imagine what would happen after a big battle in Kingdom Hearts.

I would much rather have KH3 on the PS3 instead of the Wii.

If it was on the Wii, the fighting wouldn't be 1:1 and I think 3:1 or 4:1 would be lame.

OK, can I just respond to this? :P

Actually...1:1 would be highly capable. They don't need to map the attack to motion controls anyway like I said in one of my posts above.

I wouldn't want 1:1 fighting in Kingdom Hearts, those battles are chaotic at the slowest of time

For it work efficiently and not kill my wrist, they'd have to redo the pace and style of the fighting in KH.

Well yeah, i agree. No reason not perfer PS3 from a fans perspective. For remakes...

For actual new RPGs though... it depends on the budget put in. Games like Final Fantasy's that are going to get huge budgets i perfer on PS3/360.

Games like Suikoden, Valkrie etc. games that aren't going to get huge budgets i perfer on the Wii... the less budget spent on the graphics is more budget spent everywhere else.

That's how i feel about most genres though.  Big franchises on HD, new IPs on Wii.  Minus FPS... which, the wii just destroys dual analog when it comes to accuracy.

Yeah, on the Wii it should be combinations of A and B button for attacks. Swinging the Wiimote up would enable you to jump and eventually moving the nunchuk forward would enable parrying but it could still end up chaotic .

Well there could always be the option to have it or not. I would htink it would be a nice addtion, but that is my opinion.

Well that is true, but you would compensate with lesser quality graphics. I really don't see how Turnbased rpgs benefit from that though.

I was talking about having the "A" or "B" buttons for normal attacks, then have a stronger attadk where you make a quick gesture like you see in the force unleashed, star wars clone wars or twilight princess. It would allow for the exact same speed as pressing a button.

The second option was only meant for games that aren't that enemy intensive.

@Memory2Zack  Well that is how you feel, but not everybody else feels the same. ALso I was talking about sales rather than appeal.

But honestly, as an owner of both systems, I really can't think of any reason I would want an RPG to go to wii over the PS3. ...

What about the fact that Wii games generally have lower MSRPs than PS3 games?

It's not a major reason, but there you go.

B button could be used for final blows or something new like an area-attack and hefty attacks. Parrying with triangle happened only in special occasions, otherwise you had to dodge roll, parry, take the damage or be swift and attack first. Not forgetting the magic, it should be mapped on the D-pad. Maybe dodge rolling could be done with nunchuck+some button+c-stick or just c-stick+some button. Otherwise if they don´t use any Wiimote features, they should just make it for Xbox360/PS3 although they would lose most of the young demographic.

Also I preferred KHII over KH and enjoyed the fast pacing much more, the battles  were really more enjoyable than before. So if that´s not possible on the Wii to use the Wiimote features, one more reason to go the PS3/Xbox360 way.

And it still possible to develop at lower costs for HD consoles and that´s if you use PCs as developing tools. Your graphics and other technical stuff don´t need to be top-notch btw.

wait why are we talking about finances?

aren't we talking about game enjoyment?
