Forums - Sales - YTD Comparison of NPD and VGChartz.

First let me say, neither NPD nor VGChartz are dead on. I have b*tched and moaned about both VGChartz and NPD when they don't show the results I want, so I know I am guilty of that. I just saw this and I thought it was interesting.

(BTW, VGChartz reports ALL OF AMERICA while NPD is just US so numbers will be off)

VGChartz Hardware data for the period 05th Jan 2008 to 28th Jun 2008: (ALL NA)

Console Wii PS3 X360 PSP DS
America
3,935,883
1,729,113
1,697,227
1,698,593
3,652,954

(my mistake friends. here it is)

NPD: USA only:

Wii - 3,482,000
DS - 3,187,000
PS3 - 1,608,000
PSP - 1,482,000
360 - 1,354,000

(source:Neogaf)

This isn't a VG bash thread because since no one is EXACT in their numbers, either could be a little off. I just thought I would share this with you all.

(Also. The PS3 is not yet released in central America( I dont think, according to recent statements at E3). The 360 is(isnt it?). So Vgchartz is WELL within the target 15% accuracy they wish to achieve, if you DO believe that NPD is the ultimate voice in sales numbers.)

They're not even comparing the same periods. I'm not familiar with the site you're sourcing, but are they too stupid to know that they have to line up dates to make any sort of meaningful comparison?

[edit] can you at least link the source?

Why did you include the first week of July in the VGC numbers?

@thebigfatj

Considering vgchartz is banned on neogaf, I don't think they are the ones who posted those numbers.

Well you have an extra week of our data.

What do you mean "vgchartz is banned on neogaf"?  That set of words doesn't even make sense.  They're two websites -- only in backwards developing countries have I seen sites literally banned from discussion and it's *always* because they're afraid that knowledge will spread.

I pulled the NPD numbers from Neogaf. They added up YTD from NPD.

Yes vgchartz is banned on neogaf.  The only sales numbers they allow are from NPD, Famitsu, Media Create, Chart Track, etc.  I don't make the policies, but calling neogaf stupid when they aren't even the ones who did the comparison is wrong.

@Jandre

I was talking about the VGC numbers, which is what thebigfatj was talking about.

Quoting VGChartz numbers gets you banned I guess.

VGC is not just North America. It includes Central and South America.

I'd just take the average when adding up both sources. That makes my decisions easy.
