Forums - Microsoft - Is the Tales of Vesperia demo worth it?

Did anyone say Tales?

Ahem, NO NO NO. If you want to try a Tales of game similar to Tales of Vesperia then you have two options: either get Tales of Symphonia or Tales of The Abyss. The former is more widely known but I like Abyss better and it's the last game that's been made by Team Symphonia. All others, Destiny, Eternia, Destiny 2 and Rebirth were made by Team Destiny; a different team than Symphonia.

I've played Phantasia, Legendia, Eternia, Symphonia, Abyss, and World: Radiant Mithology. Of these I recommend, should you decide to try one of the Tales of games, Abyss, but not by a long shot. Symphonia would come a close second.

I already have symphonia.

Be warned the demo hotdrops you in the middle of the game well past the tutorial areas, if you are unfamiliar with the tales realtime battle system it'll be a pretty confusing experience.

Really? I never had much trouble with learning the battle system basics when I played the demo.  It's probably because I played SO3.

Team Destiny is likely making the new Wii Tales announced so he might want to get familiar with some of their games.

@Riachu

Were you able to link good skills though? :P

Do you mean was I able to learn to use the left anolog stick to initiate skill attacks?  If so, then yes.

Eh...doesn't matter. Just buy the game anyway lol. Awesome art style + Team Symphonia = win regardless.

@Strategy

He also has a PS3...go figure lol.

 Fail Soriku. The demo sucks bad. Way bad. It looks pretty, but plays absolutely horribly. The characters are so robotic, the animations feel pre-PS2. There is no assistance when you start. It has God-awful voice action. Ugh, I could go on.

P.S. Control suck too!

Fail outlawauron, I played the demo and it was good enough to make me look forward to playing the full game.  The VA was pretty good from what I heard, and if you what robotic animations, play the Too Human demo.  The controls are actually pretty intuitive once you get the hang of it.

A few videos have gone on YouTube about the depth of combat using your various skills. Man, I feel like a total newbie compared to what THESE guys are doing...Amazing:

First one has Judith doing a 22hit combo for 6,000+ Damage. Certainly looks like the depth that ES was severely lacking in it's combat system is all here.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

^ Looks amazing. Can't wait. I also can't until release. Symphonia Dawn of the New World and this are going to be amazing. Not to mention Tales of Hearts and the new mothership wii tales games are in developement.

The game looks great. I got the basics of the battle system down but that video showed me that I have a lot of learn about the battle system. I do have to get used to the fact that unlike Star Ocean, I can't switch characters on the fly but the game does look great.
