Forums - Sony - PS3 will officially launch in Latin America this year....

Well third world is not the apropiate term is a dated one, the correct term is: developing country, emerging country.

Here in México The ps3 sells by 600 - 700 USD, PSP 300 USD. and not all people here are poor (well, 45% are), but there are a good amount of consumers.

This generation Xbox and wii are wining because the price and the support of microsoft to our region, there are games dubed in Mexican Spanish.

But PS3 still strong for many of the mexicans consumers but at this time is a little high, the income of a young man/woman (18-23) profesionist is like $1000 USD at month so is more than half a month of work in most of the cases to afford to one ps3.

The new games are in are in the range 70-90 USD, greatest hits 30 USD, and one year old games 40-50 USD

The pricing is high. Third world means that they don't have things like shoes or electricity.

That's the most retarded shit I've ever heard.

In the mid 50's when the term was first used, that is pretty close to what it meant. The overall wealth of the world has improved, so that even third world countries now have shoes and electricity but it wasn't that long ago when they did not.

Brazil was never really part of that group, it was industrializing when much poorer countries (think Chad, Afghanistan) were still working on getting electricity.  Today Brazil is the B in BRIC - a group of emerging countries with huge potentail: Brazil, Russia,India, China. Of those four only China has a stable political climate, so it is has basically taken over. So much potential in Brazil wasted...

Trying to convince me the Wii is a real adult game machine 'if you play it right' is like trying to convince me Tofu tastes great 'if you just cook it right'

Yeah, now the poor are far more richier, just look in wikipedia for Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, or look in google for images of Mexico city, monterrey, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Santiago and you will see

IK'm from venzuela and ti goes like this:

There are already a shitload of PS3's here, but the price ranges from 3-5million bolivares, or around 800-1200 thousand dollars each console, and people buy them.

Stores just go to the States, buy the console, come here and re-sell them.

If Sony starts selling the PS3 at an official price, the console could go down to about 1million bolivares, which is a good price for the console, although I highly doubt it willgo that low.

Anyways, that's how they are sold here in Venezuela, don't know about other Latin American countries though.

Oh and the Wii is outsold here too... lol.

It's the most popular console here, and the only console my dad and mom have ever played.

At least in Mexico the three consoles had a official release and you can buy them in any store, and sadly in Latin America the consoles sold only if you can buy pirated games, so I dont expect good sales for PS3 in Latin America.

Big deal.

Prices won't be any better, i hope they at least get a PSN here so i can buy games from the store.

The Latin America announcement is about the PSN Store. You can't buy stuff online from latin america as far as I know.

That might be true, but the Little Big Planet chart (i still say that was PHREAKING AWESOME) showed the distribution in Latin America with a bunch of PS3 with "aji" falling into trucks, and Jack Tretton was saying "Starting from August 2008, we'll engage distribution in Latin America.

I'm 100% sure it's "digital" distribution, since games and consoles are available at major retailers everywhere in Mexico at least.

Only in Mexico ... sort of.
