Forums - Gaming - S-E not quite sure how they will fit Final Fantasy 13 on DVD for Xbox 360

I hope they keep their word of no more delays.

I wouldn't hold your breathe, and unfortunately, neither am I.  After this announcement, I have resigned myself that this game won't make it out of Japan before 2010, which is just to far ahead to be looking since we have known about this game for a couple years now.

My guess is they will not compress things to much, people didn't freak out much about Lost Odessey being on multiple discs (just how the discs were packaged, atleast in America) and they will just put it on 3 discs, for the 3 FF13 games.

"Previous Final Fantasy games have taken at least six months to bring them from Japan to North America, and then another six months to reach Europe. The team plans on cutting this time down considerably for Final Fantasy XIII. Because of this shorter time, there are no plans for additional content over what the Japanese original has.

There also are no plans to have the games be different on Xbox 360 and PS3. Nothing has been decided for sure yet, but the team is looking at ways to compress the audio and pre-rendered cutscenes that take up a lot of data without affecting the quality when bringing the game from a blu-ray format to the DVDs that Xbox 360 reads."

Leetgeek, where does it say it will take longer, trollfriend?

Here you go sparkie

" but Square was quick to point out that you can't say this will cause a delay of the PS3 release in America"

they are going to drop 1080p cutscenes to 480p, and 7.1 surround sound uncompressed audio to mp3s. Thats how they will save space.

I predict 3 discs.

They would NOT use the MP3 compression codec as there are better ones out there, and your unsupported speculation on the cutscene resolution doesn't further any discussion at all.

I know, I was using the massive drops as examples of what they are trying to do. Plus at least my 3 disc prediction is much nicer then 4+ discs.

This is what you said:

  • Square Enix is currently investigating how to compress the audio and cutscenes found in the PS3 version of Final Fantasy 13 so that it will fit on a reasonable number of DVD's for the 360 version. They also acknowledge that this will add to the delay for release in the west.

This is what they said:

  • The first question on the floor was one to clarify how, if at all, the Xbox 360 release would affect the PS3 version. The short answer is that it won't. Final Fantasy XIII is being developed first for the PS3 in Japan, a region that won't see an Xbox 360 release. The Xbox 360 iteration is a port of the PS3 build, but Square was quick to point out that you can't say this will cause a delay of the PS3 release in America. Separate teams are working on the two versions and both are moving along on schedule. There shouldn't be a delay in any releases.

1. "Can't say" is diferent than "will add to the delay"
2. They are talking about porting in general, you are blaming discs.
3. You left out the next three sentences.

4. The last sentence of the square comment.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

I'm sorry I couldn't seriously answer your question wfz, and I'm going to go ahead and apologize for that post before anyone calls the fanboy or flameball police on me...it's all in good humor

What? There's no need to apologize. Thanks to those of us who use sarcasm a lot on VGC, people are more used to those kinds of posts. There's nothing wrong with poking a little fun.

You're right it won't cause a delay... In Japan.

Me I actually agree with you, that it will be delayed.  But I didn't start lying and making up stuff.  I state my opinions as my opinions, not as statements that other people didn't make.

@Leetgeek, that 2nd video is hilaarious. OT: i think 5 dvds would be enough w/o compressing audio and cut-scenes. with compression, I say 3 maybe 4
