Forums - Gaming - S-E not quite sure how they will fit Final Fantasy 13 on DVD for Xbox 360

If the game comes close to filling up a dual-layer Blu-ray, it would take at least 6 DVDs (more likely 7) to hold the same data at the same compression rates. You have to take into account the amount of sound, textures and code that HAS to be duplicated on every disc in order for the game to run.

Switching from uncompressed 7.1 audio in the PS3 version, should bring it down to 5-6 DVDs with minimal sound difference (you have to have a serious surround sound setup and an amazing ear to hear it). Of course having to decompress the sound files will take a small amount of additional processing power in the 360.

The cutscenes will most likely be compressed in H.264 or similar. They're not going to be able to squeeze much more out of them without dropping the quality or resolution, which I doubt they want to do.

The in-game graphics and framerates should be comparable. I've read a few interviews where developers have said porting a game from PS3 to 360 is easier than 360 to PS3 (which has caused the 30fps PS3 games).

And for those comparing FF13 to Lost Odyssey's 4 discs. Those two games are in completely different leagues. There hasn't been an FF-level RPG yet this generation.

Overall, it should have the same graphics, framerate and cut-scenes with a marginal drop in audio quality on the 360 on 5-6 DVDs. PS3 version will be the version to buy, if you have both consoles. But it won't be that big of a difference. I'm just tired of all this wasted development time on multi-plat releases. Everyone remembers that the Versus team was moved over to FF13 in order to get it finished right? So maybe this isn't delaying FF13 all that much, but it sure as hell is delaying Versus.

Yeah, because we have seen tons of gameplay videos... lol... and is not that bad, GTA4, DMC4, CoD4, you name it, there no big gap... lol...

GTA4 area was smaller then PS2 vice city, no wonder R* come out and said MS will need better storage if they want next GTA to be on 360. The gap is there which is "HUGE", just look at KZ2.

So, are you comparing a sandbox game with a FF???

And "we" know that the gap is so huge... because we have seen tons of game like Killzone 2 on the 360...

It's not an issue of seeing footage of KZ2 on the 360. I only brought that in because the claim was that the graphical abilities of the two are similar, but KZ2 blows away everything on the 360 (including you Mr. Gears of War). This, in part, coincides with any questions there are about the loss in quality in terms of graphics, sound, gameplay, etc, bewtween the 360 and PS3 versions of FFXIII. If the PS3 can make games that make 360 games look like meh, who's to say that FFXIII could have been in that category, but now since it's multiplat, it won't be because Sqaure wants the two versions to be equal?

Since I haven't seen anything that was hyped from 2005 with CG trailers, with so much trouble with the graphics, AI, and high budget developed on the 360, I can't say how big is the gap...

I wonder why you haven't seen any game hyping the 360 based on graphics......(maybe because some level of graphics can't be made on that platform.)

I guess, thats why DMC couldn't be done on the 360 (Capcom words) and more multiplats that end up on the same level, like I said, since such project doesn't exist, doesn't meant that can't be made, it just means that the people with $$$ are not that sure if it will worth it...

Changing the disc is old school and people like doing and it takes like only 15 seconds to swap a disc.

PS1, PS2, XBox, XBox 360 all required swapping discs. No big drama at all.

X360 in two years time will be like $150 for a 60GB Pro in the USA or something and that would be a good deal. FF XIII is expected to be in the USA in 2010.

What Final Fantasy on the PS2 and (Xbox....wtf) required disc swapping. Only game I remember disc swapping was DMC2...and I don't even know why that happened. GT4 and GOW2 were both dual layered DVDs, so the tech was still there, at the time, to be single disc games

On Topic: SE will not have a hard time making the game quality on any amount of disks.

Off Topic: I think Leetgeek was trained by best (CrazzyMan). I'll warn you now, if you keep acting this way nobody will take you seriously and people will stop fighting with you. Our resident uberfanboys are a testament to that. At your rate it'll happen sooner rather than later.
