Forums - Gaming - Square Enix: Final Fantasy XIII Going Multiplatform Is Game Changer For Biz

wait wait wait

I think some people need a translator :

the guy said :

"More than a turning point, you could say that perhaps this is a change in trends for the game industry as a whole," he offered. "In the past, a single platform would be at the top, and the others would not be so close."

WHICH MEANS :

"u can't rely to third paty exclusive because, if u are not the true leader (as Sony with the PSX/PS2), they will not go exclusive to you and they will release the game to other plateforms."

WHICH DOESN'T MEAN :

"The Xboat will stop sinking"

Period.

SE loving Wii confirmed! :)

But I believe Versus will hit the 360 eventually and a new FF XIII spin-off will hit the Wii exclusively.

Is the Wii a TRUE leader ???

Is the wii the new PSX/PS2 ???

Which console have :

RE5 / SC5 / SH5 / FFXIII / GTA4            =             Not the Wii

...

If u think it is stupid, go ask Myamoto about "Why Ninty doesn't push hardcore third party developpement"

Is this a joke? All those games were announced when everyone thought the Wii would flop and the PS3 would reign, etc. It's not so surprising those aren't on the Wii.

Besides, they couldn't switch systems becausethey were too far in development. As for Miyamoto, who said Nintendo doesn't push hardcore third party development?

==> that is a good point

but

GTA4/FFXIII were all PS3 exclusive at the beginning ... and then, suddenly, they switched multiplateform (see FFXIII !!)

Wii, using her amazing sales, could easly do what can do the Xbox360

the difference is that Ninty is not pushing this way AND the Wii is limited by the hardware power.

Just because it doesn't have a couple games doesn't mean it's not a leader. In fact, it's gonna gain over 50% marketshare by early next year.

==> sure, in term of sales ... Wii is OVER dominating this generation.

What...just because the HD consoles have those games somehow make them "leaders" now when they're trampling behind the Wii in sales?

==> what was saying the SE guy is not about "leader or not"

is about "TRUE LEADER or NOT"

We put a lot of money on the wrong horse... we were wrong...

We thought that certain console could end up being number 1 and now that is clear that it won´t we need  to recover the money invested, thats why we will put two greatly anticipated games on other platforms (CT and FF)... so this way we will make the money we wanted from the beginning...

Edit: Frank beat me :P

I think we'll see KH3 on wii after reading this

A Sony guy (Tretton?) also said that third-party exclusives are going extinct (I guess unless MS buys them), which is consistent with the FF decision.

However, a game being part of a changing trend, as the article stated, is not the same as the multiplatform release of that game itself being a "game changer," if that term is supposed to have anything to do with the so-called console wars.  FFXIII releasing on 360 is part of a changing trend, but not a game changer.  IF any Sony fanboys have said in the past that FFXIII would save all and that PS3 depended on FFXIII's exclusivity, they were wrong, because PS3 is already outselling 360.

In the future, I bet that no third party games are exclusive to one system.

Fixed. The Wii will still get plenty of exclusives due to its uniqueness from the HD consoles, but as for the PS3/360 they are too similar and sales aren't that far apart from each other that making a multiplat game between them would be the most logical choice.

Good point.  There is no point of third party game developers having exclusives on one HD console.  FFXIII was already going to sell atleast 5 million copies but now that the 360 is getting it, 7-8 million wouldn't be too high.

However, the Square Enix executive concluded: "There's not just one formula for success. But with Final Fantasy, the aim is to have as many people enjoy it as possible, so this is the form our marketing has taken."

Great, Square, that's the spirit. Now, release Star Ocean 4 and Infinite Undiscovery for the PS3, after all, more people would enjoy it. It's you aim, isn't it?
