Forums - Microsoft - Now Microsoft has won E3, will they get a Sony-like boost?

Permanently? No. A small boost this week? It would be impossible to determine as it is the same week as the Pro price drop.

I generally dont see any significant jump in the immediate term (maybe a little) but I expect this holiday to have gotten a bump due to these announcements.

Not to mention confirmed release dates and the tyrade of gameplay footage shown. Fable 2 in October, Im sure that was awesome for you.

I expect any increases in the next month will be from the $299 20GB.

well ,, don't know
hard to predict ,,
the problem guys that you are looking only e3 ,,
MS has done 2 big moves ,,
the new 60g console and ff ,,,
the boost -if happens- it will be due to the new console ,,
ff will hurt ps3 sales
that's what i think ..
thanx :)

Also E3 is too much hardcore

so it will not change the sales of the, nobody wants it, Xbox360 arcade

and Wii will still pown everything ...

Indeeed, the striking fact is that Sony didn't show Motorstorm2/KZ2 or did not even try to damage control the FFXIII annoucement . .

Stil an amazingly good point for the Xbox360 in term of "hype"

Time to Work !

I don't think there will be any boost, outside of that from the Pro price drop. A multiplatform game that is coming out over a year from now will not boost sales at this point in time.

Sure the announcement was surprising, but it's not going to make people run out and buy 360s. The few people that would buy a console for this game so far from release already have. They bought ps3s, probably at launch. Anybody else will wait until the game is closer to release, or else they will pick up one of the two systems for other games coming out sooner.

Just look at the forums. If there aren't people on hardcore gaming forums talking about buying 360s immediately because of the announcement, who else would be?

PS3 survived to GTA4 DLC in PAL/NA countries

so PS3 will survive to FFXIII multiplateform

even more in Japan where there is no Xbox360 release ....

(for japan on amazon.co.jp : at BEST 1k sales * 600% = 6k = non event)

Oh dont get me wrong.  I don't think a 360 boost will kill the PS3 anymore than the PS3 boost last year killed the Xbox 360.

But you acknowledge there will likely be a boost?

there are 2 points to consider :

- people that support Sony, that are saving to get the PS3 that may decide to go Xbox360 because it is gotten all the games (from playstation games like FFXIII to exclusive acclaimed games like Gears of War)

- people that are FFXIII big fans and decided to wait to get a PS3 when it will be cheaper that can now buy the less expensive Xbox360 and still play their favorite game (FF).

In a way, all will depend on 1 thing :

==> *WHEN* is released FFXIII ? early 2009 ? late 2009 ?

==> what is the cost of the PS3+360 by that time ? 400 vs 300 ? 300 vs 250 ?

More FFXIII is delayed, more Sony has time to drop the price, more Sony will recover from this "betrayal"

Time to Work !

I think though that FF13 is a game that will bring more people to this generation than GTA4. So it will be very interesting to see the sales during the launch and the price points by that time.

Its much more likely the 360 will be the cheaper option still. Sony can counter this by offering a Slim PS3, who knows. But they cant keep bundling AAA games with consoles at launch.

FF XIII will appear in Japan in 2009. A year later it will appear in English and European speaking countries.
So FF XIII will be available in Europe and USA in 2010.

Well, not everyone agrees that M$ won E3, I don't see why M$ got so much credit for showing off loads of 3rd party games? Gears and Banjo looked good, though Fable was a slightly dull show which did not really show anything new.

Are you joking?  $ony showed tons of 3rd party games, as well.  They're also a bit disingenuous about exclusivity.  At the end of their press conference, Jack Tretton claimed 10 exlusive P$3 Blu-ray games this year (extending into 2009, which is fair enough, since how else do you mention games coming out before the next E3?)  But during the montage that immediately followed that statement, I counted 9 exclusives (including NBA Inside 09, Buzz and Singstar Vol 2) and 7 multi-platform games.  WTF?

Now, you may argue that $ony's line-up is better, but you can't honestly claim they weren't touting loads of 3rd party games.

I have yet to watch Nintendo's conference (watching now) but out of the other 2, MS clearly won.
FFXIII was huge, it's almost on the same level as when sony announced that the PS1 would undercut sega's saturn (i think it was) price by $100. This E3 was still very much up for grabs after MS's showing, but sony blew it. There was nothing there that really blew me away, God Of War 3 was a good start but we all knew it was coming, to follow up with MAG was very disappointing, we wanted a well known developer making the next installment of a well established AAA franchise.

After Socom and Warhawk, does anyone truly care about MAG?

What sony needed was a heavily guarded monster hit, but they pulled on most of what we expected, stuff we didn't but didn't care about AND they neglected a big showing of what they do have already.

What really clenched it for MS though was the last 10 seconds of the gears showing, when marcus announced that they would ride the brumak! I mean come on, R2 did not have anything as cool as that and was it just me or does the leviathan look an awful lot like Megatron from the recent Transformers movie.......
