Forums - Microsoft - Top 3 Best parts (or things) of the xbox press conference.

This really wasn't a hard question for me:

The New fall update or "xbox live experience" lol

The potential is so big.... Netflix, a better XBLA line-up...(not to mention the ones that will use avatars properly)... probably the best I've ever seen, actually. Community games are going to be BIG. Avatars, well, I'm "meh" on that one, but if MS can impliment them properly, they will rock.  XBOX primetime.... This will give people another reason to sign up for gold, you win stuff!  Install's... This will only be usful for 60 and 120 gig xbox's, but it is great for multi-disk games like LO... And most definetly final fantasy.

I know, alot of people are bombasting the new update, but I genuinely think it will be the best thing to have come out of E3 this year.

Fallout 3

Even though not a real 360 exclusive, it does offer exclusive content.. which is always good, right?

But seriously, the game looks GREAT, I have never played any fallout games before, but I do know this is alot different from the old fallout series (gameplay wise).  I love the setting, and the game looks genuinly fun to play.  Also: a miny nuke gun.... That's ****ing awesome!

NO NEWTON CONTROLLER

Big *sigh*

I mean, couldn't they focus on other things?

(vision camera game, and lips shown)

Oh snap.

Biggest disapointments: Alan wake MIA, not enough of fable 2 shown, Microsoft trying to push the xbox live vision camera (couldn't they be focusing on other things right now?)

If you HATE the newton controller you might be in for a shock next year.

Microsoft looks like they're going to partner perhaps with Cable companies after the NEXT shrink and they made the interface VERY remote friendly. With the increased emphasis on downloaded movie content I can see that happening unfortunately for you.

Tease.

You can see a remote happening? There is already one, the dvd 360 remote

I think that is unlikely in all seriousness, but then again, you were right about FF13...

Looking what they have done or will do. 1. The the next Xbox revision is a system on a chip design. They're integrating everything into one chip so they can simplify the design. It makes perfect sense to do this if you want to combine the device with other electronics because you can radically simplify the design or add more board elements without having complicated PCB tracing.

2. The update in Xbox live would work VERY well with an airmouse type design. Its very visual and with an air mouse it looks like it would work very well. http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/mice_pointers/mice/devices/3443&cl=us,en Check out the above link, thats an example of what Nintendo copied to make the Wiimote. So I doubt Patent protection would help much to prevent the concept from being copied.

3. The new focus on Buzz/Interactive game show type events. This would work extremely well as interactive TV and would fit into the Cable company model.

4. A smaller Xbox360 has a lot of synergestic parts with a standard Cable box. Record functions - done on HDD which can be shared with game downloads and the Xbox360 CPU can be used to compress and encode video streams on the fly. It would't cost much more money for an Xbox360 Cable box vs a Vanilla Cable box with similar capabilities. The extra expense would be more than covered by the extra revenue from delivering Live and other services/games via Cable.

5. The TV market is stagnating or shrinking with the key 18-35 male demographic spending less time watchign Television. They can try to get them back by integrating more features and making TV more relevant to the viewers.

6. An airmouse would work perfectly for changing channels and selecting content. Infact for many people it may work better than a standard remote. I think their next move is integration and online content delivery. They can do both and implement an airmouse at the same time whilst tapping into new markets.
