Forums - Nintendo - Why Nintendo is "casual" oriented at E3

So, it has begun. Nintendo has given its E3 conference, and now it is upon us. I knew that there would be one of two possible scenarios.

1. Nintendo serves their "core" audiences by giving us all that we have wanted. Kid Icarus, New Zelda, New Microphone, HD solution, Wii Ware and VC news, more exciting Wii and DS announcements. Yes it was a Nintendo fan's dream

2. Nintendo goes casual and shows off why it is the leader this generation in both console and handhelds, by continuing its acts of disruption. Wii Music, Wii Sports sequel, and many casual and bridge titles like Animal Crossing

Now we all know Nintendo picked the latter, but why? Why do they "abandon" their core?! I mean the forums have turned red with Nintendo fan's blood. Well there are a variety of reasons, that you all should read, those angry with Nintendo, and of course, the trolls that have come to feast on any sign of Nintendo blood.

1. E3 is not what it used to be. Whether we all want it or expect it to be the same old glory and fame is just wishful thinking. The fact is, it is not the top expo anymore. TGS and others have claimed their spot above it, and the sheer lack of new exciting announcements is proof of this this year.

2. Because E3 is not what it used to be, besides to us die hard videogame fans raving for new announcements, the media does not cover it as much, and frankly, neither do gamers. Which is why Nintendo chose the second path towards casuals.

The everyday person, and regular gamer, will pick up the New York Times or turn on their tv and not see "Final Fantasy 13 coming to 360!" or "God of War 3 trailer shown!" It will show "Wii Music" or "Wii Sports Resort" If Nintendo did a 60 minute segment on Kid Icarus and the plethora of titles coming out to please hardcores, who will get free publicity for their casual segment? Microsoft and Lips.

As other E3 has shown, there is a slight chance that Nintendo will show a new announcement before E3 is over, but dont get your hopes up. E3 has fallen... hard. Don't expect the game announcements we know will come to be all at once, but leaked, and then eventually confirmed.

Now put away your pitchforks, wipe off your drooling mouths aching for Miyamoto blood, and know that Nintendo will deliver to you, just not at a spectacle at E3.

It is just....A lot of hardcore gamers were watching E3. If they showed games like Spyborg, Madworld some could be interested in getting a Wii...Now they saw a N-Casual conference so they will just have the feeling their are only casual games on the Wii..

I thought the focus of Nintendo's media summit was to take down the psychological barrier preventing people to play videogames. Notice how every game that was shown for more than a few seconds should have a big appeal to people who would hesitate to play a game.

Animal Crossing is very focused on being a social experience. The thought that games are for lonely people who sit in dark rooms is more than just neutralized with Animal Crossing.

Exactly, that is part of their bridging. What better way to try to show the media, and thusly, nongamers what fun games Nintendo is making that they can pick up and play and not be scared.

I mean if they showed Fatal Frame, Madworld, the Conduit, and Disaster, every potential gamer will ignore it as will the media. The "core" gamers will hear about these games on other days on IGN or Gamespot or by word of mouth, it doesnt have to all be in E3.

Why is this surprising? Its where the money's at these days.

E3 is when the normal media is paying attention; this is what they want.

Nintendo knows that they can put out core-gamer news anytime and we will find out.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.
