with all the complaining and debating going on about the E3 conferences, there are a few points that need to be addressed.

Mainly: This conference was not for YOU

E3 is no longer a gamer's event.  It is a press event.  The conferences are press conferences aimed at all of the press, not just gaming specialty groups.  The number of people that watch the news everynight far exceeds the number of people who browse gaming forums and check online for reviews.  These conferences are targeted at teh general press so they can be then relayed to the general population.  Hence the huge ammount of casual content in the reports, and the lack of any hard hitting game announcements.  What you will see:  A news report on playing music on the Wii, what you won't see, talk about how FF XIII is no longer an exclusive.  Random news person "Final what?"

From a standpoint of reaching the general public about their new announcements, Nintendo will be the most successful by far.  No one outside of the gaming press will talk about GoW III or R2 or FF XIII.  It won't happen. 

As a gamer, I felt the conferences were very lame, but I know they weren't aimed at the gamers, none of them were, except to a small extent Sony.  However, E3 is no longer the big anouncement venue it once was.  You will see all the big games from all the companies being anounced in their own time.  That is the way it is now.  E for All is not going to be the forum to do it, and TGS is usually a showcase of games we already know about.

What this E3 goes to prove is that the old E3 is dead, and more likely than not, fewer and fewer gamers will be tuning in in the coming years.

Just because there was a lot of casual announcements does not mean said companies are abandoning the "Hardcore"/"Mature" markets.  It was simply not the venue to show them off.

I see some more users venting in here; good. E3 needs to die now, they should either start a new expo or simply divide the one they have and hold European and Asian versions as well and do more intimate on location interviews and progress reports on scene (dev locales).
