I would guess this is their only SKU now. Seems like BC is gone completely from the PS3 now. Glad I bought the 20GB.

Great move for Sony...wish I had 80gb :(

Probably trying to keep PS2 sales alive.
Keeping PS2 selling is helping their bottom line immensely.
Instead of selling a system at a loss, sell one at a gain.

QFT. I got the 60gig and glad I did. I bought 3 year warranty for it too because I was afraid this would happen. Hopefully if it ever dies I can still get a comparable model. With all the developments so far in this generation this is the biggest disappointment for me. :(

True but it flies in the face of the Playstation "doctrine" they preached when the PS3 was unveiled. I understand why they are doing it but it doesn't mean I have to like it.

Well, there goes my reasons for buying a PS3.
Who would have ever thought that Microsoft would do a better job of BC than Sony?

I still think that we will see a BC announcement at some point in the future
It's basically just the same SKU as the 40Gb, but obviously they're running out of 40Gb HDDs and it's cheaper and easier to buy standard 80Gb HDDs than put in a custom order for 40Gb HDDs which are no longer made as standard.
So no, 40Gb model isn't really getting phased out, it's just going to get a bigger HDD once the current HDD stock is exhausted.
As for current 80Gb BC model, get it whilst you can. I'm pretty sure they stopped manufacturing that mobo some time ago, and once they've used up the existing stock it will no longer be available.
I wish i still had my 60g model. I feel....suspicious of my 40g model. Its just not the same
