Forums - Sony Discussion - the Blu-ray thread, will go on untill hddvds death.

Toshiba - There has been a war raging internally as to how much more money they are going to continue blowing through in a futile battle. That was before Warner decided to dump HD-DVD. Toshiba is the only manufacturer of HD-DVD players and will almost certainly halt production soon to stop the bleeding.

Microsoft - Will now be free to give up pretending their ever cared about HD-DVD and move on to fully promoting their download service

Xbox fans - Will now start flooding gaming and digital media sites with Microsoft download vs. BluRay articles and posts

Universal - Has a major HD-DVD backer running things who will most likely soon be making the standard 'decided to spend more time with my family' exec exit line and then fully embrace BluRay sometime this year

Paramount/Dreamworks - The only real question as to what will happen. As of right now they are contractually stuck to a dead movie format for the rest of the year.

New Line - Owned by Warner and will be BluRay exclusive shortly along with Warner. So Lord of the Rings and the rest are on the way.

Studios will now start taking full advantage of the larger BluRay discs with higher bitrate encodes now that HD-DVD is out of the picture.

Take that LordtheNightKnight. Apparently Warner agreed with my "fanboy" logic.

You clearly didn't pay attention to your own posts. What I was debating was your claim THAT Warner would switch, not WHY, as this comment here indicates. Plus the gloating nature of your tone shows you didn't really care about what was actually happening, just about "winning" the argument. You haven't "won" anything. You think facts are a contest? This isn't grade school. You're basically gloating over proving 1+1=2. What a baby.

See, this is why the format war disgusts me, because it's not based on the actual merits of the formats, or the facts and figures, but about who gets to "win" this. This why those AVS forums were shut down.

The thing is you're a fanboy because of how you act, not because you being right think is something to gloat over.

And if you read my post before this, you would see I CORDIALLY conceded your claim, but still pointed out your source needs to find a less biased place to put his info.

Toshiba Comments on Blu-ray Announcement from Warner Bros

TOKYO, Jan. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Toshiba is quite surprised by Warner Bros.' decision to abandon HD DVD in favor of Blu-ray, despite the fact that there are various contracts in place between our companies concerning the support of HD DVD. As central members of the DVD Forum, we have long maintained a close partnership with Warner Bros. We worked closely together to help standardize the first-generation DVD format as well as to define and shape HD DVD as its next-generation successor.

We were particularly disappointed that this decision was made in spite of the significant momentum HD DVD has gained in the US market as well as other regions in 2007. HD DVD players and PCs have outsold Blu-ray in the US market in 2007.

We will assess the potential impact of this announcement with the other HD DVD partner companies and evaluate potential next steps. We remain firm in our belief that HD DVD is the format best suited to the wants and needs of the consumer.

I smell a lawsuit. If there were not agreements, Warner would be perfectly justified, but if there are actual contracts...

This would certainly get ugly.

Did Toshiba just imply that the only reason they have support is down to contracts alone?

Warner has stated that they will continue to release on HD DVD until May.  If they were breaking contracts, why not go all out and drop HD DVD immediately?

http://www.videobusiness.com/article/CA6517192.html

May has well keep sticking the boot in.

"One of the things you see in the NPD data for this fourth quarter was that even with a $100 premium, BD set-tops outsold HD set-tops in December," - Ron Sanders, president WHV

So even being $100 more expensive on average BD stand alones outsold their HD-DVD counterparts.

So I see.  I skimmed the thread and didn't see the second paragraph of your post.

I'm sorry about gloating a bit, but it just annoyed me before that you seemed to adamantly disagree with my hypothesis, a hypothesis that seemed like a logical inevitability to me, barring certain unforseen phenomena (giant payoffs from the super rich MS), a hypothesis that I even usedtrusted Inside information to support, so when it turned out I was right in the end, I just couln't help but feel vindicated, and a bit of bragging escaped my fingers.  I have a very analytic mind (annoyingly so, especially to my family), so when something seems like a logical certainty to me, it really befuddles me when others disagree, and I just can't let it die unless I can come to understand their reasoning.

Anywho, I apologize for responding quite like I did. No hard feelings, okay? :)

Time frames don't disprove a contract is broken.
