I just saw Home Media Magazine's BD vs HDDVD sales for the week ending 7/22.... blu ray has sold 74% of the high def DVDs....HDDVD has sold 26% this last week.

It looks like BD is winning a lot faster than I expected it to. =)

And are the films selling better? If they aren't, that's just one number. Average sales and percentiles are just as important.

This post doesn't make any sense at all to me, and I tried to figure out what you were trying to say.  With numbers like 74% to 26%, how could Blu-Ray films not be selling better, based on averages or what ever method you want to use?

Because most HDDVD players are owned by movie buffs, where as most Bluray players are owned by Gamers.  Think attach rates.  Less HD-DVD owners by more movies per drive.  However, Bluray has passed HD DVD and all studios care about is total sales, not attach rate.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

I don't believe it's still true. Many users who expected HD DVD to win and bought a player last year for sure but right now if someone really cares abuot movies Blu Ray is an only option. Lack of Hollywood support, small capacity, unsure future, higher price (HD DVD + DVD combos = WTF?) - it's more than enough for aware costumer to cross out HD-DVD.

I agree, 100%.   I meant that HD-DVD's don't sell as many discs because there are just so many Bluray/PS3 owners.  The HD-DVD attach rate is still higher, and current sales are propped up by big releases like The Matrix.

Hitachi unveils the worlds first camcorder that records to a HD disc, only for the BD so far.

People don't care if they can't watch the movies they want to see. That is why my friends who work in electronics stores tell me they see 33-50% of all HD-DVD players they sell returned. Whenever they find out they can't play a big name movie like Pirates of the Carribean, they aren't exactly happy. The Nutty Professor 2 just doesn't cut it.

And what you said about Beta is also untrue.  VHS had more supporters, which is one of the reasons why Beta lost.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

I told some 360 fanboys not to waste there money on an hd dvd and blu-ray player until there is a clear winner, and if your going to buy a high def player get blu-ray since it looks like its winning, and they told me to go" F off stupid sony fan boy" Even though I didnt even mention anything about the ps or xbox..

Blu-Ray is Sony's baby, and you told 360 fanboys not to get an HD-DVD player, but rather a Blu-Ray because it was beating HD-DVD. What did you expect? :P

all up to the mobs, but if blueray does eventually takeover good news for sony

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B
