(I can't believe no one called him out on this... well this is the MS forum) Here's the thing about this strategy though. Once the momentum shifts, you're left in the dust. This is why Ninty and Sony have moved to more internal development. In a few years, on the next wave of game consoles, if Third parties aren't feeling XBOX, they'll move on, and because of Microsoft's lackluster internal development, they'll be out in the cold. And there's no question that MS will still finish last this generation. There's no more exclusives to make multi-plat and/or steal. Now I can't wait until next year's MS E3 conference. Nothing to steal, so their conference will have to stand on it's own. |
That's what i've being saying like forever ,XBOX fans don't seem to care , a singifanct number of XBOX 360 exclusives , SO4 , Gears Of War , Mass Effect etc haven't been developed internaly by microsoft or any of it's own developement resources but have been bought , developers are likely to make games multiplatform if they're not exclusive the PS3 or 360 because there's little benefit out of making a game exclusive to either console unless there is some financial reward for it (something which microsoft offers alot of)
Microsoft will have to continualy buy exclusive titles to keep the 360 alive because they don't have the resources to make their own quality titles year on year like Nintendo and Sony do , and once 3rd party developers loose the financial incentive to develop for the 360 exclusivley you can guarantee the game will go multi-plat que Gears Of War 3 , Bioshock 2 , Mass Effect 2 etc .
Sony doesn't have to quite worry about this problem as much because they have their own development resources , they don't have to worry about GT5 , God OF War , Little Big Planet , Resistance 2 , Killzone 2 being bought out because they exclusivley own the titles. Sony invested in developing internaly for ages and in their time of need it's really paying off.
