It happens every generation.  New hardware is released on the public, and old IP's are given a new coat of paint.  If Game X is great at 32-Bits, it should be FOUR times as much fun at 128-bits, right?  Sometimes, the results are stellar.  Sometimes, the results are a little less than expected.  In your opinion, which new versions of old games failed to live up to the hype?  Which upcoming games will deliver?  Which upcoming games won't?

My top 5 games that said "It's already been broughten!" When gamers said "Bring it on" this Gen

1. Metroid Prime 3

2. Super Smash Bros Brawl

3. Call of Duty 4

4. Metal Gear Solid 4

5. Super Mario Galaxy

 

My top 5 games that came up short

1. Devil May Cry 4

2. Halo 3 (which was good, but not stellar)

3. Splinter Cell Double Agent

4. Grand Theft Auto IV

5. Metal Gear Solid 4 (MGS brought it, but it didn't bring enough of it!!)

^^I'd have to agree. Chrono Cross is the ULTIMATE example of inferior product on superior hardware. Never have I wanted to love a game so much, and was raped so brutally.

You kinda put MGS4 twice, but I think I get what you mean.

As for one game I think failed to live up to its legacy, was probably Halo 3. I can't even bring myself to play the thing.

As for something I was glad about, I'd say Smash Brawl.

Ohh and FFXII was also a "HUGE" dissapointment.



If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

As for future games, I think Gran Turismo, Tomb Raider, Street Fighter, and Soul Calibur, are going to be kick-ass!

Bionic Commando, Spyro, and Mortal Kombat (vs DC), not so much.

I have made posts that consist only of "Chrono Cross" in several threads (worst game ever, worst sequel, game you hate the most, series ruined, most stupid story). I would go crazy with I had to write only Chrono Cross as a post again. Thanks for saving my sanity.

I never played chrono trigger but I loved chrono cross so I don't know what you guys are talking about.

On topic (didn't live up to legacy):

1. Resident Evil 4: It was a good 3rd person shooter not a survival horror game
2. 3D Mortal Kombat Games: Don't have to explain!
3. Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain: After playing 1,2 and 3 on ps1, I was like WTF is this crap?
4. DMC4: Nero sucked so bad, I gave up on the game when they returned me to using Nero again after the Dante chapters!
5. Final fantasy XII: I loved the gameplay but I could've written the story...nothing stellar happened!
