Forums - Sales - PS3 SW > 360 SW (Timely Basis)

This makes perfect sense, or at least almost.

In the time periods, X360 sold 10.3M hardware, Ps3 sold 13.8M hardware.

That is 33% higher for Ps3.

Software wise, you have it 50% higher. If we take into account incomplete data, one can see that you are totally correct.

PS3 sold more units at the same period.... so?
Is likely to sell more total software if you sold more hardware.
But there is a difference in at. rate.
360>PS3

No the hell its not in the same period?! read the At. Rate in my post

VGC data is way off for Others/PAL on the 360. I mentioned this when we discussed Wii > X360 lifetime SW.

Go look at Others on the time period you mentioned. VGC states that less than 3 million units of software sold before Halo 3 shipped in PAL....Which has now become over 21m units since then.

Quite a discrepancy, no?

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

In any case Microsoft has very little to brag about (and fans eating their PR) with regard to attach rates compared to the PS3. Considering it takes people to build up a games library. Nearly all the best selling original XBox games already got sequels on the 360 (only Star Wars and Fable 2 remaining).

So if the Wii and PS3 considerably outsell the 360, the average amount of games sold per user goes down. If the 360 stops selling completely and games continue to sell at the same amount of about 4.7 games per year, the average attach rate goes up considerably.

Sadly Microsoft brags about this all of the time and some fans spread their propaganda without thinking.

PS3 vs 360 sales

Correction, VGC says that on the date you've given that "PS3 sells more software than the 360" that the X360 had only sold 1,900,000 units of software in 2 years. Now, maybe it's just me, but that's quite a bit off. VGC Million Sellers say that 27 million+ software units have sold in PAL/Other regions (and thats only 1m+ sellers).

So you might of wanted to research sales numbers before spouting off an opinion.

@ FishyJoe

Would be nice if they included average ownership timeframes, the PS3 sold a lot better from christmas 2007 and onwards in the United States than it did the year before. That would make it easier to see if there's a big difference with regard to how fast 360 and PS3 owners buy games with regard to the US.

Worldwide it may be different though for Japan and Europe, the PS3 started to sell a lot faster than the 360 did right from the beginning. With regard to units sales worldwide the PS3 has outsold the 360 by millions taking equal timeframes.
