Don't Believe The Truth
For the historical accounts, I believe the bible is completely real, and as accurate as people were capable of doing at the time. However, it was still written by men, so issues with creation, as well as what some people say about god's will in the thing are only going to be so accurate. Plus people need to remember that the bible is not the direct word of god, the 10 Commandments are the direct words of god. so if the bible conflicts with commandments, then you follow the commandments, not what some random guy spouted out that ended up recorded in the bible.
There are lots of cases where people are reading through things that have been dismissed as fantasy books, that have had detailed accounts of astrological events and geological locations that they have been able to trace back to specific years, and sometimes even specific months.
The bible has been used for this, I think about 3 or 4 times, and I think the latest case that I heard about was Homer's Iliad and Odyssey. I dunno why, people think that just cause unbelievable stuff happened back then, that everything about it is purely fake and made up, but most of teh storytelling back then was directly tied in to preserving history. People didn't know how to write, so the only way to preserve history was through story telling. Sure, you might think that people would forget or embellish, but back then, you didn't have pda's or computers or sticky notes to remind yourself of things. People's livelihoods depended on their memory and the accuracy of their recollection.
I'm not about to say that every single word of teh bible is absolutely correct, word for word, but I think it has far more accuracy, provided the context is accurately assessed, than anyone honestly realizes.
I mean, hell, the book has been preserved for some 2 millenia now? what other book or records have existed that long? And they're doing it for a really gigantic storybook? Yeah, I totally believe that.

Probably not, I mean it's annoying because some stuff needs to be taken literally, while some figuratively and such, it's just confusing. Plus it's obvious that it was heavily influenced by humans, and I wouldn't be surprised if most of the old testement was people adding in what they wanted the rules to be.
I always thought the Old Testament was basically the Torah? I might be wrong though.
The most important message to get from the Bible is to Love Thy Neighbor. If everyone followed this one thing, everything would be a whole lot ****ing better. A lot of the other stuff is a little out dated though. Although we should all take heed to the part about being able to beat your wife, but the stick cannot be bigger than her arm(something like that). Funny the atrocities done in the name of Christianity(funny because being Christ-like would forbid any acts of atrocity).
