Not really. It all depends on where you go on the internet. There are places where you're more likely to find the "wrong" type of person, and there are places where people are genuinely nice and good people.
It's just like real life. It's not like people act completely different to those they met online. There are the nice places and the bad places in the world.
Even still, posting your first name on a message board isn't going to do anything. Knowing someone's first name does not give you any significant insight to who they are and where they live. You're extremely paranoid if you think otherwise...which you did already state.
