So completely and totally out of the blue and unexpected but THQ has just announced Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command a turn based strategy game for both DS and PSP for this fall:

The game will feature an original, immersive single player campaign and players can battle head-to-head with anyone in the world in nine unique multiplayer maps.

So far no screenshots from the DS version, but this is what the PSP version looks like right now:

It would have never crossed my mind that a Warhammer game was coming to hand helds but this might become the strategy game that I will play the most on the go ever if it's as good as Dawn of War has been. RTS is exactly the kind of game that I can sink hours and hours into and here I was getting worried that I don't have hand held games that I wanna play constantly outside of Lumines and EBA.

Any Warhammer fans out there?

ummm... it's either RTS or TBS. Turn based can't be real time :)
I hope it's TBS. RTS becomes too much twitching once you expand off screen. (Yeah, I don't like to leave my units unattended and get slaughtered)

I prefer my SLG on high enough resolution so that i can see more clearly what's going on, but interesting news none the less. (Unless it's turn based, then I am okay with it, Real Time Strategy games need an interface to be able to handle multiple command quickly and I just don't see console doing it) Since it's THQ, I am gonna guess this might be from Relics? The units look a lot like the ones from Warhammer 40k on PC, though Gameplay seem limited to single Squad?.

TBS that was a typo I was gonna write Turn Based strategy then abreviated it but put RTS somehow instead lol

Oh nice. Thanks ckmlb. I'll be looking forward to this game. I'll have to look up the DS screens if there are any yet, to compare. Some games belong on the DS, and some belong on the PSP. This one certainly looks like I'll get the PSP version.

 I'm getting the DS version cause I would imagine the Stylus works better for this game than the PSP controls.

Aw...I was hoping it would be an RTS. Hopefully this does well, so someone will make an RTS on either of these systems. It would be really cool to play StarCraft with someone during a plane ride.

I want a good RTS on the DS. I thought it could maybe handle Age of Empires, the first game on the DS hardware...I dunno. FF XII: RW has a bit of an RTS thing going on from what I've seen.
