Forums - Nintendo - The hardest time to be a Nintendo fanboy was....

Not that any point was overtly difficult but the GC era was tough to deal with as a journalist. Public perception was at the lowest point, Doom and Gloom reports came out daily, certain fumbles of the ball, no TGS presence...wasn't the easiest of times to be an N fan.

when N64 had just.... two third party RPG's

Personally, it was the N64 era ...

For most of it I was a high-school student (or in my first couple years at University) which meant I had a lot of free time and the droughts between good games was very long. In the Gamecube era I didn't have that much free time, and every time I did there was a brand-new game; I'm not sure if the droughts were shorter (I think they were) but it certainly seemed like it.

When I got my Virtual Boy.

Hands down that was probably the biggest error that Nintendo has ever made as far as video games are concerned.

Imagine having to drive 45 minutes just to get a copy of Nester's Funky Bowling.

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

I had a hard time defensing my Nintendo fanboyism when the Xbox 360 came out and Wii (Revolution) was still a year away.

While I've never been a Nintendo fanboy, if I were one the hardest time for me would be right now.

Lack 3rd party games and games i like in general...all the games look much worse than competition...online is pathetic with no comunity...

Pretty much anything that I find fun in gaming is inferior on the wii.

Yeah motion controls are fun and innovative(sometimes), but look at the trade off...

It started with the N64. Here in Europe everyone laughed at you to have the "Kiddie-Console" (but they all came over to play Goldeneye ^^) but I had a great time. It was not perfect and I had many funny conversations to defend my system but I had had my fun after all... I had great Games, I was just missing Final Fantasy but I had my PC for that. GameCube was even worse because all support just left (maybe I was to young at the N64 times to realize it) I was so happy about announcements like Exclusive Resident Evil, Duke Nukem Forever (I'm still waiting for that for my Wii... They wanted it on gamecube so they own me my Wii-Duke) and others, but so many developed for PS2 and XBOX. I still had my fun. Now Wii... I really love it, I'm no graphic whore an RE4 still impresses me in graphical terms so that I don't really need much more, but at the beginning I thought "Fine, last Ninty Console... it will fail like usual and they won't make another..." I was wrong... I have a lot of fun though too much crap... We're back at top but no developer wants to believe it... There is enough that's right but I feel still a little bit left out like in the past... But it will change like it did always... I will have my fun an I will never have a PS. I just don't like it, too many bad memories with too many stuff concerning it... I will go on and have my fun... And I may miss some great Games but I'm happy for what I've got: A great life with Nintendo-Gaming (And my Dreamcast ^^) Damn yes, call me a Fanboy, I bought every Nintendo-Console to had my fun, no matter what others say... I grew up with it and I just don't want to let it go :)

@Leetgeek: At least you had Mortal Kombat, even with sweat... Couldn't get even that Version over here (Even censored RE2+3 for GC are indexed here) ^^ I gues taht's the worse... So little "mature" titles and then... not allowed ^^

Ive seen a LOT of stuff, from newsgroups wars to teenage toys r us salesmen spew BS to just mad ignorance in my day. I guess that's why I hang here at VG Chartz - its not nearly as bad as everywhere else.

That said, I think that the Nintendo fans took the biggest hit with the GameCube. PS2 was getting more love and games, XBox had Halo, and the nintendo fans got their beloved Link turned into a powerpuff girl-esque cartoon. Nintendo still had a policy where it was trying to hard to hold onto the reins of their limited developer policies, and Nintendo fans had to go out and get a different console to play GTA and Halo and Silent Hill, etc.

I think thats part of why so many Nintendo fans are dancing in the streets with the Wii - retribution. They got so abused last gen that now they get to be the abuser to the Sony fans - at least to a degree.

As for me, Im glad Nintendo pulled through. It was an "All In" move, and if the Wii would have failed, Nintendo would have likely become the next to go Sega's route.

The GC era. It was an extreme test of faith but the GBA saved me.

Pixel Art can be fun.

When they named there console the Wii haha. Luckily it was only a short time between that an E3 2006, which was awesome for Nintendo fans.
