Forums - Gaming - How long until people start getting bored of FPS games?

FPS games will be around forever. The "fad" of every other game being a first person shooter will be over soon though. When a type of genre starts to get a following, developers jump all over it. Remember when every other game coming out was a platformer due to the success of Mario? The same thing is going on now. Shooters will always be around (they are fun when done well), but there will be less just like platformers.

Like NEVER??? =))

NEW people are growing up, that`s why FPS will be always popular.
And MOST other genres too. Not all, but most.

You might as well ask when RPG's will get old. When will people get sick of leveling up and gaining xp... and pre-adolescents with really long spiky blonde hair that look like they're women? And what is it with all 15th century settings that only feature swords and magic. Wtf man? The point is FPS's are here to stay and I don't see why people complain about the similarities when other genres have the exact same problem.

Until another genre outpaces it. It's not so much that people get old of a genre. It's more that other genres become the center focus.

Something needs to beat the FPS to take it's place basically.

Besides which... with the Wii controls on a FPS... i'd guess the FPS is going to have a bit more free reign as far as top "hardcore" genre.

I mean the Wiimote practically brought back it's cousin the light gun shooter singlehandedly.

As it is FPS are somewhat being challenged by Minigames as the main focus for all gamers though.  If the Wii maintains and the next generation is dominated by the same consumers of this generation expect Minigames to be the new lead.

what is bored?

ROFLOL...threads like this expose people's age as being too young or too shortsighted...FPS have been around for a VERY long time, and I don't see that changing, because at the heart of FPS is mutliplayer. That's like saying adventure game like the snake thing have a short shelf life...oh wait.

I don't think we will see First Person Shooter games ever disapear, but being that the genre has become so consolidated around a single definition of what a First Person Shooter should be I could see the genre splintering in the near future.

Not really.  Most FPS are suck right now...

If those same talentless hacks would just move over to minigames.  It really wouldn't effect many of the actual good games.  If anything i'd think people who like FPS would perfer it because it would save them from buying a lot of shitty games.
