Forums - General - Tribunal ruling makes mockery of UK law

"The case has raised questions about gay and religious rights. Is one more important than the other?"

I would say gay rights since I don't believe in religion and all that.

But there are people that are very religious and you can't ignore their rights either. I don't think there is a correct answer to this question because if you favor one you diminish the other.

This is a split issue I think. If she doesn't feel comfortable preforming the service she has the right not to do it. At the same time it could cause a problem with many more people opting not to preform same sex unions.

she has to do it, she took the job, she knew it was part of it, the second you make a ruling like this you open a very dangerous can of worms.

I agree that this ruling creates a lot of problems but it isn't a one sided issue. There are the rights for her personally considering her religion and there are the rights of the community who want these civil unions. It is a double edged sword.

im sorry but were talking about human/civil rights here, EVERYONE has the right to get married. Religion is just a form of Discrimination, Relgion causes conflict and war, it also breaches peoples rights, Homesexuals do not cause wars or take rights off religious people.

Dtewi, in society we don´t get to create laws because of how you feel. I´m religious, but I´m not gonna say that gay rights aren´t important. Dealing with laws is something extremely complicated, and more often than not, someone is getting screwed. We should really try to take some time to look at both sides, and see that they are represented by real people, who have equal rights.

LNRT, but it is my opinion though.

You HAVE to have an opinion on that one.

I agree that everybody has the right to get married. Even though religion causes a lot of problems the government still has to respect religious rights. This is a complicated issue and I don't think there is a correct answer because if they rule one way it discriminates against one set of people and if they rule the other way it discriminates against the other.

Please don´t turn this into a Religion sucks thread. This particular case, the more I think about, she should have just left her job. So, don´t attack religion. She is entitled to believe whatever it is she wants to believe.

i think that relgion has no place interfering with the law or politics, if you wanna believe in it, do so at home in your own time, dont impede the rights of others with it.

edit: its the law, noone has the right to opt out, when you let people opt out of the law, you pave the way for chaos

i support her, you need to stop and ask yourself is it okay to force her to do something and violate her rights so you can have rights for others?

untill it impedes the rights of others, which in this case it has.
