Forums - PC - If I have no experience using a computer, could I make a videogame?

Is there any way possible, if I have minimal computer skills, that I could make a videogame?

And when I say minimal computer skills, I mean I have trouble doing anything besides typing.

What are the basics I should start at? (to learn)

Short Answer: No

Long Answer: Not a chance.

You will need more than just typing skills. You could make a bad game with some flash and MS Paint skills..but that game would probably suck. If you want to make a good game you will need quite a bit more computer related skills.

Well the creater of Mario did it.

Well technically they all did back then since computers weren't really what we think of them today.  Back then computer experience was programming experience and to a lesser extent an understanding of the way the machines worked.  Thats more or less what good programmers know today its just that the situation is more complicated.

I got this for my nephew.

He wants to make games like his Uncle. Its a good introduction to game development and you can quickly put games together and even play your game against other people online.

well... it's not that I don't want to learn computer skills... It's just... I don't know where to start.

With very minimal computer skills you can make a videogame or be part of a team that is creating a videogame, but if you're trying to do it yourself (or with minimal help) the game could not be that complex ...

One strategy to making a videogame which works for people starting out in game development is to find a way to play your game without the need for a computer; create a board-game, card game or a "sports" game of some kind that is enjoyable to play. This works well because you can develop the skills necessary to be a good designer without depending on the skills necessary to become a good developer.
