I think its pretty simple.
Western, white audience is who is buying 80-90% of the games. Obviously you want to keep that audience as pleased as possible.
US, Canada, UK, EU, etc are all western and predominantly white and are where nearly all the games are purchased by a large margin.

The main reason is because there are not many non-caucasian people in the game industry.
I asked my African-American friend who is a good programmer why he doesnt pursue a job at M$, Apple, or in the game industry. He said that his mother wants him to be a doctor so he is going to college to be one.
Zero idea if this is a trend with African-American folks or not but I know a lot of African-Americans who are interested in gaming but would rather please their mother or parents by becoming lawyers, doctors, etc.

Symptomatic of the game industries' inability to craft narratives and concepts with real world truths, and why games are not being taken seriously next to film. Even fantasy fails without nods to truth.
So American militaristic and law forces are always the good guys, or heroes, even though militarism is not a very heroic or moral concept, and many police are "just doing my job/whatever I'm told)." Black culture can only exist in primitive poverty or crime ridden urban sprawl, or athletic competition. The only conflict worth portraying is saving the world-kingdom/killing god(s) and it can be done by a ragtag group of young people.

One of my level designers is African-American and he's also gigging out in Cali with a few other projects that are even bigger. I've met quite a few black people within the game industry at several GDC events. Sure, its a low percentage overall, but it's not like they don't exist =)

Thanks - I was wondering if I had somehow said something offensive to someone.
Too bad though - that was the most intelligent and profound statement ever made on VGChartz EVER!! And now it's lost for all time.... Mainly 'cause I'm too lazy to type it all over again (and the moment is gone).
