Forums - Sony - Anyone try a Nyko Zero for the PS3?

I'm not entirely happy with the playstation 3 controller.  It just doesn't fit my hand right.  I must be a mutant.  Assuming that is the case, the Nyko zero looks to have bigger "wings" and actual triggers instead of buttons for L2 and R2.  It's certainly an interesting design, has rumble, and a removable battery pack.  I don't like the fact that it uses a wireless dongle instead of using the same bluetooth the standard PS3 controllers use.

Since no-one responded, I read a few reviews and decided to give it a shot. The Nyko Zero, in many ways, is better than the standard DS3 but has enough shortcomings that keep it from being stellar. First, the ergonomics are awesome. It fits the hand much better than the standard DS3. The charge cable is much longer than stock as well. The feel of the joystick overall is solid and it looks really cool. The L2 and R2 triggers are actual triggers and my fingers don't slip off like the DS3. The downside is the D-Pad feels cheap and I don't like having to use the dongle plugged into the PS3 to make it work. It's $5 bucks cheaper than the stocker so I question whether anyone would really buy it unless they just don't like the DS3 like me...

I definitely recommend it for those that would like something with a little more grip to hold on to. My daughter has very small hands and she likes it better than the stock DS3 also....

hm... I saw that a while back... too bad I don't have a PS3... at least, not yet...

Sorry, bud. I tried to keep it alive... but my attempts seem to have failed.

Looks pretty nifty.

Looks More Hardcore with that Color scheme.

But... The shape is more akin to a 360 controller than a PS3 controller.

^ its looks decent i think the Six-Axis is fine so i wouldn't buy it i wish they would bring back the boomerang controller just slightly smaller

Ugh... I'm sorry, but 90% of the people I know who saw that banana controller after it was announced said they wanted Dual-shock back... There was a lot of mockery... I think most people were glad they changed back... Although I've heard the R2 buttons aren't as good, but I personally prefer them, since they are analog like the GC controllers.

Just thought I'd come back and offer some additional impressions... I had a NYKO ZERO for about a week. Overall I like the feel of it better than the DS3 by quite a significant margin. Unfortunately, build quality leaves a bit to be desired. It occasionally lost connectivity with the PS3 and I had to get up and press the sync button on the dongle to get it re-acquire a connection. The battery charge last all of a handful of hours or so. I was even willing to accept that (though it says 25 in the manual). Also, the rumble never worked even thought it said it had rumble on the box. I've read reports of rumble not being in the early versions of the Zero. Maybe I got an "early" one. I didn't like that at all as that was a reason for paying the bigger price tag. Finally, the O button started freaking out so back it went...

I bought a second DS3 even though I dislike the controller quite a bit. At least I know it will work. ONE BIG COMPLAINT: Who's cheap-ass idea was it to ship a DS3 without a fucking usb cable? How cheap can Sony get at this point? I was pissed at not getting any kind of HD cable in the box with my $500 console. However, a USB cable, that probably cost less than .25 cents in bulk? Way to piss off a customer. "Hey, Mr. New Car Buyer: You know your new car doesn't come with a remote to open the door, right? Yeah, they're cheap, I know, but you'll need one or you can't get in it to drive it..." Sheesh.

I generally dont like having 3rd party accessories, and I am happy with the DS 3. What I have done to overcome the issue of the USB cable, is to get a charger that plugs into the wall (my only 3rd party accessory) that looks good and stops wire dangling across the floor. It is made by Pelican and does the job well. Personally I do like the DS3s, mostly because I am just so used to the DS 2s, so the 360 controller (which needs a better name!) does feel a little weird, but the analogue sticks are certainly better
