MSDOS vs Amiga games:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=cETl8PhUy_E

Notice: The PC games were usually released much later, often many years later and often required PC upgrades. The Amiga shown versions all run on the low spec entry model Amiga 500 home computers. PC games required a harddrive.

Part 2 of MSDOS vs Amiga games, these include some later PC games when new the Amiga 1200 was the lowest spec hardware you could find for getting an Amiga. Note the PC version of James Pond 2: Robocod from 1993 is almost as good as the Amiga 500 version, but the Amiga version was released in 1991. The Amiga version shown in the video is the Amiga 1200 version with no big changes apart from more colors on screen.

this could have been a good thread but.....nevermind.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

Now I get it.

C64=PS2
Amiga=PS3

in tech and sales. And also in how Commodore made a lot of business blunders in the Amiga era, just like Sony has done with PS3.

If they had only put a MIDI interface in the Amiga the fight with Atari would have been over before it started.

@ TotalWar23

while forgetting that the PS3 is just a gaming console which will be replace by a succesor in 5 years time

Of couse I agree the PS3 is presented as a multi-media games console which can be expanded into a computer with keyboard & mouse, etc (it's being used for scientific research though!). But the Amiga 500 was similar, only instead of a joystick or gamepad did come with a built-in keyboard and mouse. The Amiga 500 was a game focussed home computer without a harddrive by default, various expansions were optional.

Sony is much more powerful and has far more management expertise than Commodore ever had (Commodore bought the Amiga technology from the real technology pioneers, Amiga Corp which disguised their true intentions by creating joysticks and such, one was the Amiga Powerboard with joystick, which was a balance board to play surfing or ski games, similar ideas as to what Nintendo currently provides with Wii Fit).

I think the PS3 will still be around 5 years from now, many more years. And I think the platform will demonstrate massive gains in terms of software utilizing the hardware.

Too limited usage other than amongst a niche, the Amiga audio chip was better to begin with. You can play MP3s on the good old Paula chip in pretty good 14 bit quality at 56khz stereo sound.

MIDI interfaces could be added externally/internally. Real professionals got an Amiga anyway as Amigas were far better expandable with professional audio upgrades.

Too true.

The Amiga soundchip (paula) was great, it had 4 independant 8bit sound channels, thus allowing 2 channel stereo sound.  I remember using a great piece of software called octamed that allowed the channels to be split and play samples in more than the 4 channels.  I recall making tracks in 16 channels.

It was a brilliant piece of software and nothing else out there could do music the same in the normal house than on an Amiga.

Prediction (June 12th 2017)

PS4 Slim $249 (October 2017)

PS4 Pro $349 (October 2017)

It was just in the US where the NES was very popular. But look at those games on the Amiga, even if I lived in the US I wouldn't want to trade an Amiga for a NES just because a majority of gamers owned one. The same if I owned a Ferrari, I wouldn't have wanted to trade it for a deux chevaux just because more people owned one.

The Amiga 500 has far more games than the NES ever did (I can't think of one game which had a better version on the NES, IMO apart from Mario games the quality was ranging pretty much from so so, to amazingly awful really), the Public Domain/Shareware/Freeware games market started developing here, as well as the glory years of the demoscene was on the Amiga.

Now MikeB is attacking the glorious NES.

Looking at my avatar, you'll notice the Amiga boingball.

Before Commodore took over Amiga Corp, back in January 1984 the Amiga team wrote a small demo to demonstrate what the Amiga would be capable of, this became known as the Amiga Boingball, an unofficial Amiga logo which demonstrated its ahead of its time capabilities.

For me it represents true innovations, envisioning things with an eye on the future (the Amiga team implemented ideas about a decade ahead of them being implemented on Mac/PC and some of its long lost features are still left to be desired), etc. That's why I drew my personal logo with a Rising Phoenix bringing back innovation in an IMO otherwise pretty stale market.

Well everyone has his or her's opinion. IMO the NES was an ugly console and the bulk of its games were pretty damn ugly, sounded bad and were very simple in the sense of not much was going on usually, for its time. It was a cheap console and IMO it showed. Of course many early PC games around the time were even worse though.

Even the original Mario Bros was much better on the C64 than on Nintendo's own console. Nintendo employs geniuses though with regard to making good games for all ages. I had Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr amongst my Coleco vision's best games as a young kid.

And now how ugly is a console is a defining factor in the quality of the games of such console.
