Forums - Sony - KillZone 2 is mightily impressive - gaming's most impressive showcase

From Sin on neogaf (the guy that leaked the KZ2 delay to February, among other things SCEE related) said that they are really focusing on AI right now:

Nice preview. I'm hearing they are heavily focusing on AI right now and its gonna be something special.

I don't think you can make the claim that any PS3 game is "GAMING's most impressive showcase" ... possibly "Console gaming's most impressive showcase" or "The PS3's most impressive showcase" ...

I copied it from Maxconsole. Don't blame the messenger.

I wasn't blaiming you ... just pointing out that in terms of Audio and visual capabilities the PC is head and shoulders above any console.

We all know the PC can have better looking games, but there are not many that give you this level of detail and atmosphere to each level that we have seen in Killzone 2.

The preview was very positive all around, except they said vehicles felt "a tad...inconclusive". But overall, highly positive.
I like how all the different developers are working together to help make better games on the PS3 as well. I think it's good that developers do that.

For those that are worried about the gameplay at this point in time and didn't read the entire thing there's this might take some things off your mind:

"Killzone 2's effective new cover system doesn't just benefit you and your Interplanetary Strategic Alliance (ISA) pals, though. Helghast troops now routinely make snap tactical decisions on the battlefield, leaping behind a safer cover point if you start to pepper their current hiding place with gunfire. The original Killzone wasn't exactly renowned for its clever enemy A.I., and the guys at Guerrilla hope to correct that here by giving its foes the ability to intelligently navigate maps by climbing over obstacles and a desire to relentlessly pursue you should you attempt to run like a coward."

and this

"Several aspects of the first game simply didn't work, and developer Guerrilla Games has no qualms about rethinking fundamental design choices. "Killzone was our first game, so of course you're going to find some mistakes and glitches," says Visual Designer Roland IJzermans. "We really had to figure out what people liked and didn't like about the first game and then fix what was broken." Their first order of business? Add a jump button. "I had no idea that everyone thought jumping was so precious!" IJzermans says. Another big design shift pares the number of playable characters down from four to only one, fresh-faced protagonist Sev. "We wanted to have one stronger main character as opposed to having four separate heroes," says Game Director Mathijs de Jonge. "We feel that having one hero will lead to a better experience.""

Wait, is this quote from the beginning of the 1990s? Because if it's not...

People do not get it. They are not saying it has the best textures, best detail etc, what they are saying is how the graphics are used to immerse the player in the game creating the best showcase, graphics are art and like art it's not how super realistic it looks but how the effect captures you. So all you PC lovers get of your high horse, yes Crysis has super detailed graphics but thats what they felt like, high end PC graphics and lack a kind of depth that Killzone 2 has. I feel for developers when this kind of thing is missed .

just like little big planet i havnt heard a single bad thing about this game

We didn't hear bad things about Lair or Haze until they were practically released either ...

People who are given the opportunity to preview games tend to be (amazingly) easy on these games because they will give developers the benefit of the doubt and assume they will fix the issues, and if they're overly harsh to any game no developer/publisher would want them to preview their upcomming game.

mmmm.... I really look forward to this game as I loved the original, except for two things: collision detection and AI. If they can keep the good standards ( or even raise them) of the first game and fix those two problems, it will be a great game.

(In my opinion)
