We didn't hear bad things about Lair or Haze until they were practically released either ...
People who are given the opportunity to preview games tend to be (amazingly) easy on these games because they will give developers the benefit of the doubt and assume they will fix the issues, and if they're overly harsh to any game no developer/publisher would want them to preview their upcomming game.
