Leaked Email: Goodbye 20Gb Xbox 360 - Hello 60Gb Starter Pack?

Email leak apparently announces it.

9 Jul 2008

The Xboxfamily website has apparently received a leaked email from Microsoft aimed at buyers at US chains GameStop and Blockbuster. The email states the following:

1) 60Gb Xbox 360 'Pro Console' will ship in July.

2) Either the last week of November or the first week of October will see the standalone 60Gb hard drive shipped under the name ,"Xbox 360 60GB LIVE Starter Pack".

3) The Starter Pack will be priced at $99.99 (£50) "with an 18% retail margin".

4) It will comprise:
60GB Hard Drive
3 Months of Xbox Live
Xbox 360 Wired Headset
Xbox 360 Ethernet Cable (same one that is included with Pro and Elite)

5) The email also states that, "With the end of life of the 20GB Hard Drive and the price drop of the 120GB Hard Drive to $149.99 (£75) in September, this new 60GB hard drive will fit very well into our “Choice and Value” pillar."

The 120Gb HD is currently listed by Microsoft itself at $179 (£80) - although GAME in the UK prices it at £129.

You can, however, pick up a Hitachi 160GB Deskstar SATA II300 Hard Disk Drive for... £23.87.

Microsoft in the USA is yet to issue comment.

The Xbox 360 hard drive is the same size AS A NOTEBOOK HARD DRIVE...

As in 2.5 inch Vs 3.5inch...

You try finding a 2.5inch 160GB hard drive for £23.87...

Moreover, they've taken the absolute cheapest place to get that 160GB hard drive, and compared it with an expensive place to get the Xbox 360 one...

Sick of this slanted reporting...

I looked at the site they linked for that.. they don't even sell that "product"

Terrible advertising.

Bang on, also its an accessory so of course its going to be a rip off...Everyone knows all accessories for all consoles are just a money milking device.

Here it is for £109.99 inc delivery...

http://www.play.com/Games/Xbox360/4-/3437336/Official-Xbox-360-120GB-Hard-Drive/Product.html

Also if you use "quidco" you get 6% cashback and there are various vouchers floating around the net that take 5% off at the checkout taking the price to under £100. inc delivery...sure still a rip off but hey ;)
