Forums - Nintendo - Should the wii have bundled wii sports with the system?

It doesn't matter how manner hours a game is played.

WiiSports is the Wii to all the new gamers. They went to a friends house, made a mii and started bowling/other. Then they go and buy a Wii so they can show it off to their friends. Meanwhile there are children in the house who will play WiiSports and maybe a couple of other games their parents buy them for Christmas; they will become new loyal Nintendo Fanboys and Fangirls for the next 20 years.

Super Mario Bros. is the NES to all the new gamers. They went to a friends house, jumped around and went down some pipes. Then they go and buy an NES so they can show it off to their friends. Meanwhile there are children in the house who will play Super Mario Bros. and maybe a couple of other games their parents buy them for Christmas; they will become new loyal Nintendo Fanboys and Fangirls for the next 20 years.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

My 4 yr. old son and I have barely touched Wii Sports since we got the system. We've maybe logged 1/2 hr. at the most. We'd much rather play our other games like Mario Kart, Galaxy, etc. IMO, Nintendo should've just left out Wii Sports and charged me $25-$50 less.

It seems you and your son are the exception rather than the rule, what do you think?

Any way i think it was a master stroke, I still enjoy the game even after all this time! And its the life of the party these days.

I fully admit that we're probably in the minority.  It's actually the opposite of what I expected.  I thought he'd want to play nothing but Wii Sports.  Instead, there are some days I can't pry the Wii Wheel out of his hands.  The mind-blowing part is that at 4 yrs. old he actually WINS races and trophies.  My wife and I have had to make a deal with him that he isn't allowed to play Mario Kart unless he also plays some educational games on his V-Smile as well.

Keep this in mind when reading what I type...

I've been gaming longer than many of you have been alive.

you are a real exeption, I think the average usage time for Wii Sport is 65 hours, right ?

People must like it -- about half the Wii owners in Japan have bought it (3.11M of 6.56M). I mention this because the Wii comes without a game in that market.

So there must be something to this "tech demo."

PS -- The only other person I ever heard call Wii Sports a tech demo was a big-gamer-type Gamestop employee. For most people, Wii Sports is the gateway game into more things. Those here tend to already be addicted.

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.
