Forums - Nintendo - Why is the wii selling

Why is it selling?

There are several factors that go against it, and yet it completely dominates the market, why?

1. Worst games so far this gen, after looking at both gamerankings and meta critic, the system seems to have the worst games out of the 3 big consoles this generation.

2. Worst online this gen, worst online system, with its terrible friend code implemation, and lack of online content, there is no reason why gamers should be attracted to the wiis online.

3. Worst graphics this gen, yes its very far behind the playstation 3 or the xbox 360 in the graphics department, no reason why graphic whores should want such a system.

So in theory, the wii shouldnt be selling this well, yet the system continues its outstanding sales, it has an innovative controller that has been done before in a different way(which was ignored in the past), and it has a very cheap price, but the 360 doesnt sell because of this in europe.

So what is making it sell? Not the games? Not the online? Not the graphics? What? Innovation possibly but its already been done before(power glove, playstation eye toy, etc..)

Call me silly but... it's fun.

the wii is awesome that's why its selling!!

I smell a rat/troll.

Because people are buying it haha.

I couldn't think of more of a dick answer haha. Um because people like it and it has a dominant brand appeal which makes it the mainstream console of choice. All about brand appeal, and Wii definetly has that for the masses.

Only a few things really effect sales:

1.) Advertising.

2.) Quantity of games.

3.) Word of mouth.

4.) Media attention.

Since Nintendo is currently dominating all four of these categories, it's not really surprising.

90% of console gamers on all platforms are casual. A publisher once told me that his company considers anyone who spends under 20 hours a week on a system a casual gamer of that system, which would make most of us casual gamers of our systems.

There was a funny statistic last year that showed that something like 48% of PS3 owners didn't know their console had Blu-ray. This kind of thing isn't uncommon. The fact is that us internet gamers may number in the low 10 millions, but there are more than 100 million people who buy consoles every generation.

There is also what should be an obvious fact: Game quality is mostly subjective. Reviewers can scream that Wii Sports is just a demo all they want, but that doesn't stop it from being the biggest system seller in two decades and it certainly doesn't stop it from being many casual gamers' favorite game this gen.
