If there were any advantages perhaps but I cannot find one. Even Home is no way to get things done fast. For that you have the XMB. If you want to navigate a number of options 2D is much more efficient. I doubt MS would be that stupid. A X-Mote is a good possibility or a home knockoff. Or something entirely new MS may not be the biggest innovator in their home world but they have been pretty innovative in bringing PC options to the 360.
Another reason to just press a couple of buttons instead of first finding the right direction to the screen. While for example Wii sports is awesome and everybody even non-gamers understand the controls, having people who are new to the console navigate the menus before starting the game is very awkward. I suppose that gets better with time.
