i dont know its weird.. playing the wii all weekend long i did not care about graphics even once.. it was the most fun i've had playing videogames in a long time..i'll definitly play it again tomorrow after work... but now that im back home with my ps3 and 360.. for some reason playing those games graphics do matter to me.. maybe its because thats how im used to thinking about those 2 systems... but i couldnt imagine playing gears of war or resistance fall of man with toned downed graphics....with that being said i feel honored by finally playing the wii over the weekend.. anyone who owns a wii should feel great about what they got.. i know now why the wii is selling like hot cakes... its a very good product.. well thought out before it was released.. i respected the wii and its fans before i played one but i really respect the wii now..... it truly is the best system out right now hands down... be proud wii owners be very proud...

Great to see someone who owns all systems.  You and ckmlb seem to be about the only ones on this forum.  I'm not one (though I would love to be... someday).  Also you had better dodge the flying shoes from PS360 fanboys lol.  Really though, no one should feel bad about their purchase (and no one should attack anyone else's purchase) because every system has it's own unique appeal, and they all have value.

I think graphics are a cheap substitute for substance, while they are lovely and add much to the game, they are not a necessity. Everyone wants their console to have the best graphics, and there's no shame in taking pride in that, however when you start using graphics as a measure of a game, then you are a child, simple as that. Graphics didn't give the GC or Xbox better games or better sales than the PS2 so why anyone should think the rules have changed this generation is beyond me.

How Sony fans can all of a sudden pretend that graphics suddenly matter this generation when they didn't the last two is perhaps one of the most ironic jokes of gaming history.

why do you have to attack just sony fans?? sony fans must be the devil... i understand the ps2 was the least powerful out of the 3 but...like you said everyone wants their console of choice to have the best graphics..just look at all the gaming websites they compare graphics for every cross platform game... hell... thats what was known about the xbox when it first came out was graphics...

Graphics DO matter, but it is important to remember that there is a "point of diminishing return" on both the hardware and the style of the game itself.

I think it's the idea that many gamers feel that with such a heavy focus on the technical aspects of the games that other elements of the games are starting to suffer as a result.

Nobody is crazy enough to accuse me of being sane.

The problem is that graphics are an expensive substitute for substance ...

Since the introduction of gaming press and gaming magazines companies have known that by producing a prettier game with an interesting enough concept for a 500 word article they can (easily) sell enough games to cover the cost of development. Today you will spend $20 Million or more producing a game in order to gain the 250,000 sales that this approach ensures.

I appologize if you take offense to my argument but my point is still valid and stands irregardless. The xbox always had the graphics so its nothing expected to see them put favor into that. The Sony fans are different story though and this generation is ony further compounded by them being the more vocal of the two in advocating graphics over gameplay.

Like other people it seems, I think graphics do count, if they are like the first of that calibre. For instance Gran Turismo 3 sold really well, because graphics like that had never appeared in a racing game like that, and although GT4 sold very well, it didn't reach the popularity of GT3. My theory was because people had already got GT3, and as GT4 didn't have vastly improved graphics, people decided not to buy it. I think that's also why games like Gears, the new Zelda, and R:FOM have sold well, because they are the first games with great graphics for the time, and with Zelda, the series.

What are you talking about?

Zelda TP was a pretty game but nothing particularly impressive when you consider other Gamecube games, and people have claimed that Wind Waker was a prettier game. The argument that "Graphics = Great Games" implies that Zelda TP couldn't have been the best game of last year because most XBox 360 games were far more technically advanced.
