Ok, I am sure Squilliam didn't mean it like it sounded, but banning him for a day or so I guess I can see as appropriate, to keep the zero tolerance thing, but banning him for a week?

Also, he made an alt for the single purpose of posting an apology in this thread, and then you delete the account (along with the apology).

That's pretty lame.

 You guys are letting a moronic post and the person for that post got what the deserve to de-rail this thread. Ontop of that Dupe accounts are not allowed. When the account gets perma banned the posts get hiden. There isn't much around that one. Mods are 100% right on this one.

Why?

Because is he being racist or is he joking? If I tell a black or jewish joke is there some sort of hate involved or is it in good tatse?

It might be in good fun but it could still be offending to jewish or black people

Example: Its wrong, even if you were trying to be funny ... well you just arent funny.

He sounds offended

 

But that is probably his dialect,  people over here also call them **** it belongs to the dialect of the town if would just call them Japanese it wouldn't fit in the dialect over here..

PS:  This is also a good example of why freedom of speech doesn't exist :).

 

 It wasn't the fact that he used a racial slur. Sure that is the biggest offence and bolded by the other poster but the post as a whole is just derrogatory and wrong.

Also, freedom of speech doesn't mean you can say what you want when you want. You should go look what it actually means.

Everyone should know their rights and what it entitles now lets get this thread on topic of the Japanese PSN.

That really depends in witch region/country you live I guess.

Example from Japan:

Said by the secretary- General of the LPD:

According to the Mainichi Daily, Aso was speaking at a lecture in Nagasaki Prefecture. Aso referred to a Japanese peace initiative, saying, "Japan is doing what the Americans can't do. You can trust Japanese. It would probably be no good to have blue eyes and blond hair

He also said:

At a meeting of the Kono Group in 2001, Aso drew criticism when he said that "those burakumin can't become prime minister," a statement directed at Hiromu Nonaka, a burakumin member of the Diet.

Burakumin = A minorty in Japan would be the same if Bush would have said, no native American can ever be the President of America.

Aso statesment shocked a lot of countries and the Japanese government tried to clarify this as misunderstanding his words (that we really didn't).  

The Japanese people were even shocked that we found this offending.

sorry for reviving this thread but there is something that needs to be said here and i'll make it nice and short.

There is no comparison with a word that was simply a misunderstanding or mistranslation with a word that has a long history of blatant racism, hate, and suffering.

To make it a moot point for this site: bottom line for vgchartz is that it's a private site so they can ban whatever words they want.  It doesn't matter if you like it or not.

Well their is still a debate about that going on,  some Japanese (native) speakers said that he really said that but because of diplomacy the J-government said the magazines/Newspapers etc misunderstand them.    But the guy Aso said enough things where nationalities could feel offended anyway.

Those of you concerned over his use of the word "Japs," yeah it was pretty bad, but if you read the rest of his post, it got 10 times more racist and horrible. He insulted their eyes and their culture. He earned his ban.



On-topic:

Nintendo pulls the same shit with the VC. I don't know why. I think it has something to do with it being easier to get the rights to older games in Japan. They always have a huger library of downloadables. They also always have huger libraries of games to begin with because the bum publishers both here and over there refuse to translate everything.
