Forums - PC - Looking for a good, but not extremely high priced, display monitor!

Hey guys, for those who were in my last thread, you know I decided to go with the Macbook. Now I'm looking into display monitors so I can have one for home use. I want one that has nice quality, but I'm not too keen on spending the $550 to get Apple's display they offer.

Any suggestions on a nice display, but one that won't take me half a grand to get?

I've just been testing out a SyncMaster 2253BW which is a 22" widescreen monitor. It's a great monitor and it costs about $290.

Good contrast ratio, 1680x1050 native resolution. A very low response time, it handles high action games well. Perhaps what really amazes me about it is watching HD anime. HD One Piece on this thing is AMAZING.

I think it's at least worth giving one a test ride. Overall it looks great. If I was interesting in buying a monitor now I would be very happy with it.

209.99 at Newegg, its the monitor I have.

22" Acer with DVI and VGA inputs. No USB inputs or speakers, but who needs those on a monitor anyways.

I own all three current consoles and a great gaming rig, now thats out of the way.

"is it Wii FIt that has sold as many as PS3's sold? Thats a LOL Look at the total sales of software is it just me that sees Nintendo titles hitting 10m+ and you say they arent making a difference? Another LOL!"

"Hell, with all the negative hype Sony spin, people just aren't interested cost is too high and to get the true HD experience (1080p, 7.1 surround) you will need a $1000+ system. THAT IS GOING TO DO IT IN A RECESSION! PS4 will not happen"

GlingGling, Do you have a link to a site that shows that display? Also, do you know if Best Buy sells it, or where I can go to look at it and see it? 22 inches is a little bigger than I need though, but considering the price it's at it seems doable.

Thanks for your input.

|_emmiwinks, I'll check that out right now. Real quick though, same question to you. Do you know what stores I can go to look at this in person?

$300 at Best Buy for this 22" Samsung widescreen: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8817505&type=product&id=1206749957578

I certainly enjoy my similar (but now discontinued) Samsung 22" that you can see here: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-SyncMaster-226BW-LCD-Monitor/dp/B000NBBWNU

Not so much in person, I couldnt find it at Best Buy or Circut City, seems to be a more from the Manufacturer type deal. Sorry about that. great monitor though.

I see your in So Cal, Im here too, I built my computer from Newegg, and would order the part after they closed on Weds, and it would be at my door around 2pm Friday. Their shipping is insane in this region since they are located here too.

|_emmiwinks, I looked at the page and noticed that there was a gripe about looking at the screen from different angles. Is it only apparent when looking from extreme angles, or how much of an annoyance does that pose?

So far I'm most interested in the Samsung that Deviation posted (first link), and the Acer that |_emmiwinks posted.

How would you guys compare the two?

|_emmiwinks, I just noticed that your display you showed me isn't compatible with the Mac....

So now it seems that Deviation's is the way to go.

Any more input is greatly appreciated!

Question - how important are things like colour reproduction and acuracy. Is this just a moniotor for web pages/movies or do you actually want to do visual type work on it?

Tease.

I don't want an amazing monitor, just something that looks good. The only thing I'll be doing on it is web surfing, and other regular applications. I won't be editing videos or making any, and I won't be playing videogames on it.
