The reason for this is that each type of trophy has a different value. This is how your gamer level is calculated, and this is how your trophy progress in a game is measured. These trophy values are the same across each game.
After doing some calculations, each trophy type appears to be worth the following values:
Bronze = 1
Silver = 2
Gold = 6
Platinum = 12
Therefore, if you had 43 bronzes, 10 silver, 3 gold, and 1 platinum…you’d have 43+20+18+12= 93 points.
As I mentioned above, this points system is used by PSN to determine your gamer level. From what I’ve seen so far it looks like this:
Level 1: 0 – 14 points
Level 2: 15 – 39 points
Level 3: 40 – 79 points
Level 4: 80 – 159 points
Level 5: 160 - ??? points
I think we should start ranking everyone in the table based on this points system. Thoughts? |

It's really no work at all when updating the table every week. The number of points is automatically generated in the spreadsheet when all of the current trophy info is inputted. It's just a simple calculation that gives us a better way to rank members of the trophy league in the table. Here is the calculation:
Points = (# of Bronze * 1) + (# of Silver * 2) + (# of Gold * 6) + (# of Platinum * 12)
As I mentioned in my previous post, this calculation is used by Sony to determine the following:
- a player's gamer level and "experience" needed until next level
- trophy progress in a game (% complete)
- the number of trophies allowed in a PS3 title, PSN title, and expansion packs. From the games release so far it looks like this:
- PSN title: 21 points
- PSN expansion: 6 points
- PS3 title: 82 points
- PS3 expansion: ??
