Porn is nice and all, but I wouldn't call it my favourite console.

I guess if I would search for a thread from one year ago that was created by Sqrl, I would find a similar comment from you. Your joke is so last year!!!

Wii -- love the wii-mote and it really shows what is possible outside of traditional analog twin sticks. If only the Wii had added slightly more powerful graphic hardware and storage... As it is, I've bought a BUNCH of games for it...

360 -- Huge game library with a bunch of STELLAR titles. Bioshock, Mass Effect, Gears, and SO many more. Tons of games in the bargain bin that are still great games to play. I've still got 20+ titles to buy and play and all I'm doing is falling farther and farther behind so I don't think I'll be left wanting for games on the 360 this generation. Hardware quality is questionable though it has been improved lately. I've not had the RROD but I have had multiple console failures due to failed DVD drives. It really needs a full "slim-line" redesign for the masses. Microsoft needs to quit nickel and dime-ing people to death and add built-in wifi as well as allow third parties to make controllers and such without paying the stiff license fee.

PS3 -- I've only had it a couple of days. Console build quality seems top notch. It screams high tech and high quality. Built-in blu-ray is awesome. I'll be projecting blu-rays onto a 100" diagonal screen using my DLP projector. Thats a win. Free online is a definitely a plus but I don't do online so it's not much benefit for me. The library is still a bit thin, however, so the PS3 isn't going to see nearly as much action until more games arrive. It will get a workout as a karaoke machine (singstar anyone?) and as a blu-ray player. It is also being utilized as a PS2 player as well. Currently playing FF12 on it and have a bunch of PS2 titles ready and waiting. Sony really should start charging a nominal fee for online and beef it up with more content. I'd like to see demos for pretty much every title out there that has one -- especially if it is a multi-plat.

I don't have an overall favorite. They each bring some solid traits to the table and to pick one over the others is leaving a lot on the table. I'm pretty happy that the three are all seeing success since it means continued competition and innovation from all three vendors. I benefit. As I sit here, the PS3 has occupied almost the entire day. Heavenly Sword. Folklore. Echochrome. FFXII. Singstar ad nausem.

I hate trolls.

Systems I currently own:  360, PS3, Wii, DS Lite (2)
Systems I've owned: PS2, PS1, Dreamcast, Saturn, 3DO, Genesis, Gamecube, N64, SNES, NES, GBA, GB, C64, Amiga, Atari 2600 and 5200, Sega Game Gear, Vectrex, Intellivision, Pong.  Yes, Pong.

Wii:-

It's a great machine with great ideas. Theres probably 5 games that I'd want one for, SMG, SSBB, MKW, Mario strikers and Wii version Twilight Princes. The other games dont really interest me at the moment but VC catalogue of old Ninty games is also awesome.

360:-

Awesome games lineup. The reason I bought one and havent bought a PS3 yet is the games library. I love all genres and am not dissapointed in any area with the 360 so far. To many good to great games in multiple genres is a massive bonus. And this year just gets better. Console of choice at the mo.

PS3:-

The Ps3 is a great machine. Whats stopped me is not the hardware but the software. All the multiplats I want I have either played or own, so that leaves exclusives. They have some good ones, but there is to many holes in genres for me to purchase one yet. So far I only really want LBP and MGS4. That doesnt warrant £300 yet. Will eventually get one, but I'll wait for the price to come right down like I did with the original Xbox. When there is enough good games to warrant the purchase.

XBOX 360

What I like:

  • Achievements
  • XBox Live games can be big, more akin to full-size games and digital distribution of retail games isn't out of the question
  • There are a couple of games for it that I like (Fable 2 and Civilization Revolution)

Why I'm not getting it:

  • Already have a current-gen console (having two would be too expensive)
  • Game library has too much in common with that of the PC

Playstation 3

What I like:

  • Consistent numbering (PS1, PS2, PS3)
  • Good quality (my TV is a Sony Wega and it's been very reliable)
  • There's a game for it that I like (Civilization Revolution)

Why I'm not getting it:

  • It's just outright too expensive
  • If I were to purchase a BluRay player, I'd probably look at getting a drive for my PC (greater flexibility)

Wii

What I like:

  • Massive multiplayer (almost) out of the box, supports up to four players provided you have the remotes (no multitap required)
  • Great graphics (miles better than my SNES. which was getting on anyway)
  • Plays all of my SNES games! Plus all of my NES games, and lots of games I never even had through emulation
  • Takes up very little space
  • Motion control, a completely new way to play and experience games
  • Effectively has a mouse, allows for genres never previously considered for consoles (point-and-click)
  • Talks to my DS
  • On/off on the controller, smart and makes the Wii remote more 'remote-like'
  • Aural feedback through the controller
  • When the controller requires both hands, there's no need to keep your hands in the same position (more flexible, comfortable)
  • Supports wireless networking out of the box
  • Miis, a game-independent representation of yourself that feature in a number of games
  • The Mii Contest Channel lets you download Miis that look like cartoon characters
  • Many peripherals for added realism (wheel, zapper)
  • Keeps me physically active (especially Wii Fit)

The Wii is obviously my system of choice. I'm also hoping Fable 2 comes to PC and Civilization Revolution gets taken off hold for the Wii.

Ps3 because it has games i'm interested in.

It's funny how none of the guys who say all I do is troll cant man up and say positive things about all the consoles.

Actually, it's not "manning up" when all you've done is play things a little smarter by posting the same thing you did in your "what made you glad you chose the PS3 over the 360 the most" thread, but also adding some glaringly positive things about the 360 and the wii. So yeah, all you do is troll still, you're just evolving as a troll.

Anyway, I've owned all 3 of the current gen home consoles at some point over the last 2 years, here are my thoughts:

360:

Why I bought it:

- It had/has the best games lineup easily

- Live is still superior to what PSN and the Wii offers (More players, more games to play on)

- The 360 controller is the superior of the 3, followed closely by the wii and then the PS3. The thing that the Wii and 360 do that PS3 doesn't is that the controller is actually molded and designed so that it can be held comfortably by a person with normal sized hands, where as the PS3's is just the PS2 but Sony shaved off valuable real estate underneath the controller to fit the awkward triggers. Wii mote loses to the 360 because of the sometimes awkwards cable that connects nunchuck to wii-mote

Why I sold it:

- It got the RROD after 2 years. MS customer service is equally the best with Nintendo, Sony's (at least in Australia I should say) are trash.

- PS3 was getting FFXIII and Kingdom Hearts 3 will no doubt go to a Japanese console, so as long as it's not the PSP (which I don't own) I've got my bases covered.

Wii:

Why I bought it:

- The fact that it's something the whole family can enjoy was the major draw card

- Ability to play Gamecube games (never owned a gamecube and wanted to see what all the fuss was about with MP1)

- I saw potential for particular game genre's to thrive on the thing

Reasons why I may be regretting it now:

- Lack of quality outside of Nintendo's own lineup in it's first year is a shame (most ports I've played on their original console)

- Online support is simply not there (Note: Have yet to play Brawl, which should change things alot)

- Mario Kart Wii was not a step forward after Mario Kart DS (not a big issue)

PS3:

Why I bought it:

- Potential for future games

- I sold my 360 and the Wii wasn't going to keep me entertained in between the months of nintendo's next big release

- Free online (I guess, I didn't have an issue with paying for XBL, so this isn't a big one)

Reasons why I may be regretting it now:

- Outside of CoD4, PS3 online isn't that great, not that it's the fault of the system, more the games (MGO isn't too flash, I don't have Warhawk which I think would be good, GTA4 mulitplayer sucks)

- Online: being forced to play at certain hours in the night due to my location really sucks. At least there are people playing though (which would have been an issue in the first 8 months of the PS3's release)

- Current games lineup: The exclusives, in all honesty, are not that flash right now.

R1 is great and entertaining, but Ratchet and Clank feels like I've been playing the same game for years now (I've played all of them except the worst one of the PS2 lineup, forgot the name) but that may not be a bad thing considering how good the franchise is.

Uncharted is alright except for all the talk of AAA it is a good game but it just isn't AAA, the story line (quoted by a mate: This reminds me of that matthew mcconaughey and kate hudson movie) is B-Movie to me, the controls aren't as tight as you want them to be (certainly not as good as gears) and for some reason, I can never get Nate to get off a wall when I want him to (to avoid grenades) and I can't perform any awesome action movie maneuvers that I can in gears (and what Naughty Dog obviously want you to do considering they are trying to make it as movie like as possible) which is again due to not quite perfect controls. Another issue is the graphics, yeah it looks nice, but, for all the glory of the wet clothes did anyone not notice that his hair stays in the same spiked up at the front shape when he gets out of the water (particularly in cutscenes), that seems like a huge omission to me considering how oftenly people trumpet the achievement of wet clothes. Also I've notice lags in texture loadings and screen tears (interestingly enough only in the one chapter but numerous times in that chapter). But with all my criticisms, the game is still fun, which is the most important thing, it's just not AAA.

Basically, if what's keeping me occupied the most is a game that can be played on another console (CoD4) you know there's an issue with the lineup. It'll obviously get fixed with time though.

EDIT: Sorry about the long post.

PS3
-----
Why I like it:-

- It has allot of 1st part games that I like from Sony
- It has allot of media options for my viewing pleasure
- Free online is always a plus
- I reckon the controller is the best, it's simply comfortable in my hands
- it's very quiet
- It's shiny black, and very stylish with the chrome finishing, I just like the look

Why I haven't bought it yet:-

- Want to buy HD tv along with the PS3 in one hit, but am just waiting till the new Sony Bravia's hit the store

Wii
----

Why I like it:-

- it has free online
- It's relatively cheap
- It can play my Gamecube games

Why I bought it:-

- Cheap impulse buy
- Sisters sorta pushed me into getting it

Wii-

Got one close to launch because I love all the Nintendo franchises since the NES days. All the Mario, Metroid, and Zelda love right off the bat was to die for and the new controls are what gaming is now all about. I cant wait to see all the new Nintendo games and see how 3rd parties will take advantages of their controls the way the DS is.

Ps3-

Why I should buy it: Great games that I need. MGS4 and LBP mainly, and maybe FF13 if it meets the hype and isnt garbage like FF12. Dont really care about Blu-Ray or Home (which looks like a bust to me). But having a PS2, this might be a good upgrade when I look to buy my next console. Free online does look appealing on a college budget.

Why not to buy it: I dont have a HD TV, dont care for Blu Ray, and is too expensive on my budget.

360-

Why I should buy it: I love FPS and they dominate this console. All the weaknesses of the Wii are met with a 360. Live would probably be my best friend if I can afford it. Halo 3 and GeoW are must haves. Potential and old Rare games appeals to my N64 nostalgia. Ive never had an Xbox and BC would be fun. Also cheaper than PS3.

Why not to buy it: Online isnt free, looks like it wont have the same exclusives as PS3 that I want, RRoD would make me Xbox phobic for awhile. Rare might not make the games I hope for (Killer Instinct, Jet Force Gemini, a proper Perfect Dark)

Right now Im leaning towards a 360 just because it will suit me more and theres too  many extras I wouldnt use on a PS3. We'll see how many pricedrops they both will have this next year and their next slew of exclusives. Im just one killer app away from being swung to either side, so Rare its all up to you! Im gonna start buying old PS2 games I missed out on and if they fit my liking, like God of War, then that might swing me but thats a big maybe.

Wow i swear i saw squilliam bash the playstation a few posts back, hows your MGS4 going?... full of sarcastic bs, aren't we.

Playstation 3 - music, web browser, games, MGS4, movies, friends, playstation store, remote play, firmware updates

Wii fun, party games, wii sports, SMASH, interactivity

xbox360 Gears, online? n-bombs, racists, immature, annoying, power brick, over priced accessories, Halo, Mass effect, and after expiration date, a decorative paper weight with fashionable flashing red christmas lights. I felt like i just graduated...

What i like about the consoles

Wii
the games that i currently own, the gamecube games i missed out on, for the first time playing games with other members of my family, including relatives coming over for the sole purpose of playing video games when they wouldn't have touched them before. I have bought a Wii.

360:
They've done a fantastic job with live and achievements, and i wouldn't be able to deny myself of one had they kept more of their games off PC. I haven't bought a 360.

PS3:
Probably the best bluray player on the market right now, with a better guarantee of it being updated due to it also being a gaming machine, also would allow me to play ps2 games which i also missed out on. I'll probably get one at some point in the near future whether or not games i want to play come on it. I haven't bought a PS3 yet.
