Forums - Sales Discussion - PS3 will sell around 3million units in others alone in december 2008

Ace Combat and Star Ocean are expected to come to the PS3. The companies haven't ruled out a PS3 version.

Oh, so because they might eventually get an extremely late release on the PS3, it means the 360 hasn't stolen anything from the PS3? Well, I guess it's impossible for any console to steal anything from another, isn't it? Nice job building a rhetorical wall around your delusional claim.

Indications are not wii will not outsell the PS3 this december in OTHERS.

You are correct leo, the Wii probably will outsell the PS3 this December in Total Others. Nice to see you be positive towards the Wii for once.

Unless you are talking about "others" as in the last table in total others hardware, in which case I think you are wrong, the PS3 has been released in more of those small regions so it is likely to sell more than the Wii.

Someone edited my post, I didnt say that.

I stated INDICATIONS(stockpiling of wii's, so much on store shelves) are that the wii will NOT outsell the ps3 this holiday season, with no more AAA titles coming out for the system or any proven IP compared to the PS3 or the 360 for that matter. Not to mention that the stockpiling is huge on store shelves. If sales do drop, it will be a huge drop just like I predicted.

Yeah sure.
You have only 1 prediction to your name so far, and that is the 120k per week thing, which wasn't particularly bold as predictions go, but I will give you it as your 1 correct, sales based prediction.

oh he has many more predictions. I've lost count of the number of times leo's "Wii sales will drop" predictions failed to come through. not to mention my personal favourite "Crisis Core will sell 10 million copies"

Yes, for example I never claimed Unreal Tournament 3 was stolen by the PS3 from the 360.

Or that Gran Theft Auto 4 was stolen by the consoles from the PC.

Your logic just works differently than mine. Considering the 360 had a 1 year headstart, I find it logical some games may release much later on newer platforms with very different architectures (or Microsoft paid for timed exclusivity). Nothing totallly unexpected for me.

PS3 vs 360 sales

Your logic works whatever way is better to suit your agenda. You know very well that the 360 is hurting the PS3 in terms of developers' attention, which is the key thing. You just choose to hide behind rhetoric and nitpicking so that you can ignore it.

The 360 had a one year headstart, thus still has a larger install base due to the PS3 having higher entry pricing. However PS3 sales are catching up fast, so the PS3 is gaining in importance to multi-platform developing companies. Nothing really surprising, I could have told you this well before the PS3 launched.

Sony and its partners just need to push out more high quality exclusives like we know they will and have, this will expand the PS3's relative market share compared to the 360. Currently it's already at around 42% (PS3) vs 58% (360) globally, developing companies starting projects today may well expect a completely reversed market advantage situation for when their projects are ready for release.

PS3 vs 360 sales

The PS3 saw sales of 3.4 Million consoles sold worldwide in November and December of 2007, even though it saw price reductions, massive bundling (Dell.ca was selling a PS3 with a game and a HDMI cable for $400), and the victory of Blu-Ray. I just don't see this happening ...

Now, some people also claim that the PS3 wasn't designed to see PS2 sales out of the gate which (essentially) means that the PS3 will never see PS2 level sales. Realistically, the sales of the PS2 in its third, fourth and fifth year were so high because it was an inexpensive system (under $200) and it had a massive number of games that were being released; in contrast the PS3 will (likely) not be that inexpensive of a system until late in its fourth year, the low sales and high development costs will keep the number of game releases low.

Now people may claim that the PC will keep the number of releases for the HD console's high, but the HD consoles are already pretty close to the minimum requirments of most PC games being released today; and developers who started games in 2008 that are to be released in 2009 or 2010 would have had to make the choice between releasing an impressive game for the PC or releasing a game on the HD consoles. For those in doubt of this consider that an impressive game in 2009 will have to treat the top of the line Graphics cards and CPUs that are on the market today (which are far higher performance that the HD consoles) as their low or mid level hardware.

@MikeB: Don't pretend the headstart in the launch is the whole issue, we all know how important Microsoft's moneyhats are.

Yes, Microsoft has and will invest into trying to keep an edge over the PS3 through exclusive deals and 3rd party projects. But as the PS3 install base increases they will need to lay down exceedingly larger summs for multi-platform developers to be interested in exclusive deals. It will become harder and harder for Microsoft to pull off.

The mere fact that franchises like GTA, DMC and RE are also on 360 is already a major benefit for Microsoft, since it prevents the PS3 from being the new PS2. And seeing the sales of multimplatform games on 360 it's very unlikely that these games will ever be PlayStation exclusive anymore.

The PS3 is the PS2 successor, however it's not designed to do PS2 or Wii-like sales right out of the gate. That would be far too expensive for Sony.

I didn't notice huge bumps in 360 hardware when GTA4 and DMC4 were released and I don't expect this from the new Resident Evil neither if released simultaneously with the PS3 version. I think the situation will become much clearer when a slimline PS3 is launched (which will be designed to do PS2 like sales) and a few months after all major XBox games have received 360 sequels (Fable and Star Wars).

I think 2009 will be an even more crucial year with regard to the "console wars". The PS3 outsold the 360 in 2007, for 2008 the gap will likely be much bigger, for 2009 I expect the gap to be enormous.
