Forums - Gaming - Sid Meier developing an exclusive PS3 game or 2?

I don't care if gballzack is a troll by any or everyone's standards, I'm sick of the "in before -whoever-" remarks. We're out of junior high, folks...cut it out.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

RTS should not EVER go to the console. There are odd games which have neat controls that work on it though. Like Batallion Wars, but there is a reason that the multiplayer on the console version of C&C isn't allowed to compete against the PC.

1. PC Games: Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars (2007) 85
Electronic Arts

2. Xbox 360: Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars (2007) 82
Electronic Arts

2. PC Games: Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-Earth (2004) 82
Electronic Arts

3. PC Games: Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth II, The (2006) 84
Electronic Arts

4. PC Games: Lord of the Rings: War of the Ring, The (2003) 67
Sierra

5. Xbox 360: Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth II, The (2006) 79
Electronic Arts

Not too bad...those scores are on metacritic.

However, no one has said what kind of game it is.

Ck, stop flaming the hell out of people its getting annoying that in every post you attack Gball or Fishy or something - sure they are fanboys doesnt mean you have to attack them all the time.

On topic: Blurgh, while I admit RTS can be done on a console its generally inferior to a PC (just cant replace the mouse, even the Wiimote doesnt try to do that).
Sid Meir games with the intricate and long games would not translate well, however something like pirates (which is suprisingly a favourite of mine) would translate very well indeed. If he does go this way please let it be something like the latter rather than a civ game.

You must find Gball even more annoying then.

Anyway, if RTS on consoles support keyboard and mouse, there would be no difference.  Easily done for the PS3.

I think a Pirates game would be great, though.  All Civ games were turn-based strategy, btw...

I have a hunch it might be something completely unique.  We'll see.

Indeed I do find Gball annoying sometimes, just because shes annoying doesnt give other people the right to be annoying as well.

Also no game will be programed exclusively for a keyboard and mouse on a console, its like programming exclusively for a steering wheel add-on, it reduces your install base a bit too much. And yes I do know that civ is turned based strategy Civ 1 is quite possibly my favourite game of all time.

^^ I thought Civ 2 was the best, number 1 had that bug where you could just win by boulding endless cityes, has Sid Meier ever done a non-turn-based game ??? maybe it will be a turn-based first person shooter, that would be a inovation nobody asked for, I think Sid is one of the people who are very perfectionist so it can go very well (like Civ) or very wrong (like Alpha Centauri), think he´ll do it right though, he hasn´t done anything but strategie and/or simulation since 1983 (before my birth) so anything else would be a interesting surprise.

I enjoyed Alpha Centauri as well... More than any of the Civ sequels.

Turn based FPS would be one hell of a revolution if he made it work.

When games support steering wheels they still support the default controller.  There are consoles games, such as the ones I've mentioned, that have worked out decent controls with the controller.

I am merely saying that, personally, I would like to see RTS and FPS games support keyboards and mice on the consoles.  Developers are coping out by either programming the game where PC and Console players can't compete against each other, or they are trying to nerf the PC controls in order to make it fair.  NO GAME should be developed with less than ideal controls.  Changing the controls to favor the console gamepad in those kinds of games is just ridiculous.  Just support keyboard and mouse for the consoles.  Some players will still compete with gamepads but a lot of people would just upgrade and it would all be ok.

The thing about console FPS and RTS is you know that most factors of hardware are even, so no one has an advantage by having a superior videocard.

Civ 1 and Civ 2 were on consoles. I still play Civ 1 on SNES every so often - the controls are perfect.

A Civ 5 could be easy to do, as well as AC2.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

AC2...don't start the rumors...but I would love to play that game.
