Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft's Greenberg: Wii Customers May 'Graduate' To Xbox 360

"You see they're not buying games on it, right? They're buying it, it's like something they break out when people come over, and it's maybe a fun thing, but it's almost like the same people that buy a karaoke machine, you know? They're not really buying it for games, they're just buying it as a novelty."

... Oh man, that must be why all Wii games sell so horribly.
Seriously, somebody should fire that man. :p Why don't these people think and maybe gather some facts before they start spouting their nonsense comments... :s It's just pathetic.

This is so funny.

Let's say he's right - what does that say about the 360 and MS that their console can't compete with a fad karoke machine and that said karaoke machine demolished their lead and great games catalogue in not much over 12 months?

Let's say he's wrong - what does that say about the 360 and MS that they so fail to understand marketplace and their console can't compete with a fad karaoke machine?

I know he's not paid to admit that Nintendo has demolished MS hopes this gen (and pretty quickly too). But a little more subtlety and a little less obvious rubbish would seem a lot more professional to me.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Did he just refer to the Wii demographic as "9 year old gamers?" He sounds like atroll who calls Nintendo "kiddie." Either he has the same intelligence as many of those trolls...or he is just buying their bs.

Why wouldn't he do this? It paid off for Microsoft last generation, so it can't hurt to try it again.

How did it pay off?  MS lost billions on the XBOX1 and exited it fron the market early.

?

You're quoting Mr Greenberg out of context! Before that he said: "I think that a lot of the people that are buying that console today are not people that have generally bought consoles in the past, right?"

So when he is claiming "they're not buying games" he is refering to the portion of Wii customers that are new to consoles.

You really don't believe this phenomenon exists?

LOL. The only demographic that MS is most popular with is American teens and immature twenty somethings. All other demographics are dominated by Nintendo right now.

Nice spin, but unfair comparison m8.

05th Jan 2002 to 29th Jun 2002:
Console XB GC GBA PS2
America
1,046,337
635,861
2,573,494
2,676,297
= 6.93 million units

05th Jan 2008 to 28th Jun 2008:
Console Wii PS3 X360 PSP DS
America
3,924,967
1,688,839
1,699,753
1,709,573
3,652,954

= 12.57 million units, or an 80% increase over the comparable period in 2002!

Your comparison is unfair. The comparable period would be January to June 2007.

No. This gen launched 6 years after last gen in America. 2002 + 6 = 2008.

JaggedSac,

lol, yes.

And it's even harder to win when you're constantly being outnumbered.

Wrong. PS2 launched in October 2000 and the 360 in November 2005. That's five years difference.

 Oops.

Well, if CrazzyMan can get away with it, I can do it too.
