Forums - General - Why are non-gamers idiots?

OK, so I went a party last night and there was a wii set up in case anyone fancied a play. What game did we have to play? CARNIVAL GAMES, which is crap. but there was maybe about 10 people or so all arguing that it is one of the best games on the wii. there are tonnes of better wii games

Edit: Yeah I'll let them see the light lol, they are not gamers which is fair I guess.

edit edit: Yeah I regret making this thread now. Also, I see that not everyone knows good games.

Not idiotic, just ignorant. Show them some better games and they will see the light.

Not exactly sure what I'm supposed to say, Highwaystar. Good story?

I'm going to go stand over here, now.

The same way everybody else is an idiot.

Perhaps one of your friends is a film lover and would scoff at your "favourite film ever".
Same for books, favourit brand of PC/laptop favourite place to eat etc etc.

I would not consider anything that involved playing a console as a "party" unless it were guitar hero (or rock band now I guess) or the people there were under the age of 16, sounds more like a gathering to me. Not the point I know.

Anyway, it's just lack of exposure to games, and it's just an opinion. It's not as if their word is fact and maybe they haven't played many games recently. It's like all things in life, just because they think it's great, doesn't mean it is and just because you think it's not great, doesn't mean it isn't. Hell, I had a whole lot of fun when I first played a Gundam game on PS2, even though the general consensus (spelling) among non-japanese gamers is that they are utter crap. I also enjoyed one of the last 2d Dragon Ball Z fighters on the PS1, even though most thought it was terrible (thing it was called Ultimate Battle 22 or something like that).

I also enjoyed the torment that was the original TMNT game on the NES (I was 5 back then though). Oh and I absolutely hate WoW. Am I now considered a non-gamer because I love games that 95% of gamers hate? it's an opinion. I'm sure there are some games you really enjoyed that would be considered shovelware or below average by most here.

Best thing you can do is set a good example by having a AAA title at your gatherings, but don't call people idiots just because they have different tastes to yours, in fact, WE could be idiots by following a bunch of glorified nerds with "editor" written across their foreheads who posts on an internet site that the game sucked and believing it is true because they said so.

Well aside from the ignorance factor some of it has to do with this concept:

"Have you ever noticed that their stuff is shit, and your shit is stuff?" -George Carlin

Same sort of thing.

You have never had a Goldeneye party?
nor a Mario Kart party?

drinks, music, and occasional video games can't go wrong.

Love those quotes Sqrl.

By the title of your thread, you make it sound like all gamers are not idiots...

I believe it's a mental ailment, one associated with those who purchased PS3. They rely on their ability to not recognize theirs better games out there (for a cheaper price).
