Forums - Nintendo - Why do you like the Smash Bros. Series?

What is it about the Smash Bros. Series draws you in?  It's such a idiosyncratic game but it still sells in millions. I know I like it, but I can't just figure why...

Is it because of:

a. The wealth of Nintendo characters and history that geeks everyone out?

b. The online - multiplayer part of the game?

c. The simplicity and the chaos therefore caused by this simplicity of its game mechanics .

d. Other reasons?????

Just wondering...

Its really fun.

The battles system is different from almost all fighters. Some of my favorite characters are in the game, including the favorite. The games multiplayer appeal. So two of them are what you said, the other one isn't. Its the only fighting game other than tekken I've ever gotten into.

I agree there are tactical aspects in the game system as in Tekken. But Smash Bros. is accessible to some and bewildering to others because of the intricacies of its system.

It's just sooo much fun. although I have to say it might take some time to get into. When I first played Melee i didn't think it was that great until I mastered it and could thrash the computer on Level 9. After that I had over 2 years of incredible fun.

Haven't gotten to that stage in Brawl yet and so still not enjoying it fully. Mainly cause I find it hard to block using the Gamecube controller (think u have to press it fully while on Melee you could do light block by just pressing slightly). And for some reason I can't seem to press sideways on classic controller probably cause of where the analog stick is positioned. when i try to do a side smash or side and B move I always end up pressing up.

I was going to post, but then I realised that reasons a), b) and c) of yours sum it up perfectly so there's no need to contribute further.

Wait a minute...

It's packed. No game in my collection has as much content as SSBB. The value alone makes the series worthwhile.

Yes, but its this seer amount of features that make it an overwhelming experience for some gamers, since it requires your time, life and blood to unlock them all. I know because It happened to me too...but I have no regrets since I enjoyed every second of it.

I bought Brawl for my household yesterday, going to have a good play through on Saturday when more people are home.

Why did I like Smash Bros. 64 and Melee? 99 Stock all nighters with some mates.

I think it's much better to go into a Smash Bros. game without knowing what you can unlock.  You'll be happy with the game as it is out the box, yet every feature you find will be a nice surprise.

Because its fun, very chaotic and fun, one of the best multi players out there...
