Wow, that's a great deal.  That's almost tempting enough to buy a Macbook.

Yes, thank you for mentioning that Sam!! I owe you big time.

So it turns out that getting the black version of the Mac is 100 dollars more....just for the color....

Now I'm going to get the white one instead. So that means that this entire purchase is actually turning out cheaper than the Dell! Isn't that crazy? I get the student discount, and I get a free $299 8gb iPod Touch!

^_^

Leetgeek, it's only going to cost 1 hundred dollars more. Not a thousand. Plus from what I hear, macs with the same ram run a lot better than pc's. I'm not going to get into this, my uncle is the tech savvy person. :P I wouldn't be able to back this up, but he would.

Gobias, I'm sorry! But many people have said that the macs are extremely more reliable, and if something goes wrong I can easily take it to the store right by my apartment to get it fixed. For an extra 100 bucks I'd take that.

Good choice, you will never regret getting the Mac. In fact, virtually no one ever does. All the people who say go Mac have used Mac and PC. All the people saying go PC, only have used a PC.

See a trend? ;)

Not true here.

Nor here.

i had a 15'' laptop, big screen and all, but too heavy to carry around all the time, especially it's not the only item you're carrying.

i have a 12'' now, it's awesome, as it is more... portable.

I think the black has a bigger hard drive as well, but if you don't want that then it's definitely not worth the price.

You lie. Each Mac is individually sprinkled with fairy dust by Steve Jobs so it defies physics.

Actually, it's quite possible. I've seen tests where worse specced machines outperform supposedly better hardware in a real world test. Simply measuring clock speeds and megs of RAM is a good way to get a general impression of how fast a computer is, but things like logic board design have a real impact on performance, and are very hard to gauge without testing.

I see where you're coming from, but Macs use PC hardware from PC hardware manufacturers. Apple no longer do unique design work. The Macbook Air's innovation in smaller size, for example, is entirely due to the engineering work of Intel (making Penryn fit in a smaller package).

Actually I put that into the cost. The black version is $200 more, and the only thing it offers is a 250gb harddrive instead of a 160gb one. They give you the option to upgrade to the 250gb harddrive with the white version for only $90, meaning that the only differences between the two is now the color (black instead of white).

So..after doing a bunch of calculus, physics, and working with the theory of relativity, my results came out with the black color itself costing an extra $110.

Pretty pathetic to be honest. I'd like to have the black color a lot more, but I'm not spending extra money to get it, especially $110 to do so.

Yes, that is kind of a ripoff.
