Forums - PC - Need Advice! Macbook or Dell Insprion?

From what I hear vista gets like 99% less viruses then XP making its virus level around the same as what the old mac OS tiger was at. Don't know about the new mac OS.

The truth is that back in the day Macs were better built then PC's so their extra cost was justified. Not so much the case now, as their specs are the same. Get the PC or you'll wind up paying not only extra $$$ for not only the Mac brand name but then you'll pay $$$ again to get the M$ products you'd get for free on a Dell.

Unless you don't want MS word etc.

The only thing Dell gives you for free is a MS Office Trial. You still have to pay for the full version. And geuss what Office is the same price for PCs and Macs.

I have Vista and it's like XP with bugs - my files keep disappearing, I have compatibility issues and my entire operating system has become unrecoverably damaged twice forcing reinstalls.

That's why you should buy the Dell and dual-boot Vista and Ubuntu (Linux). Use Ubuntu for the serious work and Mac-like features, and Vista for application compatibility. Works for me.

Um yeah....update....

So I finally got a chance to talk to my uncle today on aim, and I asked him about many things, and we talked for hours.

Now I believe I'll go with the Macbook. I can buy a bigger monitor screen for home use if I want a bigger screen, so that'll work out fine. Also I can double boot windows with OS X on it. So if worse comes to worse, I'll be running windows on my mac, but my uncle is 99.999% sure I won't ever have to resort to that. He said that Office works just fine, or I can use Google Doc (which is a really cool thing I never even heard of until he showed me).

Once again thanks for all of your input guys.

two words- OPEN OFFICE.  Works great on Mac. and its free!

Guess whut the mac wit da same specs gonna cost an extra G fo dat shiney apple logo.

I have a 2.33ghz core2duo 15" MacBook Pro, and I wouldn't trade it for ANYTHING else, other than a brand new one!!!  Not only is the actual hardware a piece of art, but OS X is probably the best OS ever created.  It never crashes, it absolutely FLYS, and it is beautiful to look at.  Not only that, but you can run windows on these things now too, and they run windows as fast/faster than a lot of windows based PCs.  There's one for ya!!  Trust me, you won't regret getting a Mac.  I switched over (I still have a PC that is strictly for my gaming addiction) freshmen year in high school, and now almost 7-8 years later, my MacBook Pro is used for EVERYTHING besides gaming.  I could never go back to windows for daily tasks, school, work, or anything other then gaming.  In which case I have a Vista64 based monster sitting in my office to get down on.

Leetgeek, it's only going to cost 1 hundred dollars more. Not a thousand. Plus from what I hear, macs with the same ram run a lot better than pc's. I'm not going to get into this, my uncle is the tech savvy person. :P I wouldn't be able to back this up, but he would.

Gobias, I'm sorry! But many people have said that the macs are extremely more reliable, and if something goes wrong I can easily take it to the store right by my apartment to get it fixed. For an extra 100 bucks I'd take that.

The model of dell you where looking at comes with HDMI output. I connect my dell xps 1550 to my 40 inch hdtv :), great for games too. I use my for school too. I'm a business major myself. The ordered an additional 9 cell battary with mine and don't have a problem with battery life even though i'm at school 8 hours per day.

BTW...Office for Mac doesn't compare to Office 2007. And Google Docs...well that's comparable with microsoft works. Office 2007 is amazing, particularly Excel 2007.

Last but not least. Anyone that doesn't like Vista are morons. It's entirely superior to XP in every way.

Good choice, you will never regret getting the Mac. In fact, virtually no one ever does. All the people who say go Mac have used Mac and PC. All the people saying go PC, only have used a PC.

See a trend? ;)

If it's only $100 hellz yeah get the Mac but I've never seen a mac with the same specs as a PC that didn't cost like $500-$1000 more.

By the way, Dell's competing laptop is the XPS M1330.

Speced with everything you can get in it that the Mac Book has, it cost $1,584 (with 4 gig of ram).

The black Mac Book from Newegg, with 4 gig of ram, cost $1,569.

Plus the mac comes with software that's better then anything you can get on the PC, at any price.

You also don't get a remote, and you only get 128Meg, and not 144 meg video memory.

When you look at the specs, you can tell it is a direct competitor to the Mac Book, and it cost more.

Who is now more expensive?
