I'm with Kasz on this one, though I do own an 8800GT, I'm an ATi man at heart.

Kinda off topic...but I worked on a 6 month contract with ATI 2 years ago. Testing drivers and various other code...

They did not renew my contract, those assholes :)

They have a really nice office complex in Toronto, Canada though.

FWIW, I'm delighted that DAAMIT are back in the game as NVidia's offering's over the last couple of years up to the 8800GT were pretty damn mediocre, but don't be silly. It looks like their profits are going to be dented by having to pay several hundred million to fix defective laptop parts, hence the big drop. I'm sure AMD's new cards are a welcome and long awaited return to form but that alone is not going to cause investors- who, let's face it aren't Red Team fanboys- to drop the stock.

Let me sum up the problems:

Nvidia hasn't determined the exact cause of the problem but said it relates to a packaging material used with some of its chips, as well as the thermal design of some laptops. Modern processors generate considerable amounts of heat.

To tackle the problem, the company is releasing a software driver that will cause system fans to start operating sooner and reduce the "thermal stress" on the chips. The driver has been provided to laptop makers directly, said Derek Perez, an Nvidia spokesman.

The products have been failing in the field at "higher than normal rates,"

Now, I'm no expert here.... doesn't that sound awfully like similar problem experienced by another product? Gosh, only if I could think of what the product is..... Help????

Why didn't you highlight the "packaging material" part? Is it because it doesn't support your theory? As far as I know, the RROD is not a fault with materials. You always manage to get the RROD into any topic ;)

I didn't try to, frankly, I didn't even mention RRoD, but to see certain console fans laughing at misfortune of another company for the same mistake their own console maker made, is just hypocritical.

I wouldn't say 'hate', but it always bothered me that they bought 3dfx, but did not support the existing 3dfx customers.

Reminds me of when SNK pulled the NGPC and offered only the retailers a buy-back.

really? because my example works for most of fanboys. If they were Xbox fanboys, then RRoD is definitely the example.

if they were PS3 fanboys, then it would be about Sony's battery..

so on...

at this point, I'm glad Sony fans are at least a bit more respectful of the trouble a giant chip maker is going through.
