Forums - Gaming - WW2 shooter in Wehrmacht perspective?

The pc RTS Empire Earth has a German campaign. Half of it is WWI and the other half is WWII. It's really great. Starting in 1939 you need to conquer Poland, Norway & Denmark, Benelux & France before the end of 1940. Another battle is the Battle for Britain I think. And a third one is Operation Sea Lion which was never executed because Germany lost the Battle of Britain, but you get to invade Britain from Northern France and need to destroy Buckingham Palace. I can recommend this game to everyone. The Russian campaign is epic too.

Eh, I think we need to move away from actual, historic wars in videogames, in my opinion.

I'm not totally against them...but I will say it's a little disrespectful if we exaggerate or desensitize such an awful war.

And I don't think it's completely desensitizing gamers to violence either...but I think it's better to have fictional wars, like COD4, or scrimmage-type games, like CS and TF2.

Or maybe I'm just sick of WW2 games in general.  I do still love Company of Heroes, and you can totally play as the Nazis there, and I love playing as them the most.

^This.

I think the way WW2 is prostituted for pretend shooting amusement is low.

Nov 2016 - NES outsells PS1 (JP)

Don't Play Stationary 4 ever. Switch!

Before we do other perspectives on World War II, we need to do a World War I game, i think.

Though it would be interesting to see what would happen if an "Axis Powers Assault" game were released, where you got to play as Germany, Japan, or Italy, or any of their lesser-known friends (Vichy France, Finland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Iraq, Iran, Thailand, and Manchuria)

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

The winners write the history games.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

I think war games should play more like Deadly Creatures. You play a little as a scorpion, and a little as a spider, and you go back and forth to get the whole story.

@ plaxx, thanks for joining and a great post. It is certainly true that the Russians were only "our" allies because they were the Germans' enemies and they committed many atrocities as well, but you cannot ignore the things that the allies did, though obviously it is nothing on the same level

I am not sure about whether I would really want to fight to defeat the British and Americans, I am tired of World War II anyway

First off, I only joined this site to post on this topic, as it intrigues me. I agree with Plaxx and have discovered that a lot of what is going on here is not necessarily talking about a game Based on the Wehrmacht, but on the acts of the Nazi Regime and those trying to inform others that the Russians, who are supposedly the 'good guys' being that they stopped Germany, weren't any better, worse even.

We should not be discussing reason for each side being worse than the other, but about a largely fictional video game, as someone earlier stated - the winner writes the history books - a lot of the stuff we know from journals and books written at the time are biased. I believe that people feeling bad about a video game about Germans killing their countrymen in the past, relatives or not, is respectable but also a tad selfish. If you think about it, all the games on the allies are killing Germans, and what do you think the German people who lost loved ones feel about that?

The game itself would be discussed like this on an official level if it is ever considered, and they would be looking into every corner of right and wrong. If you look a COD: WAW, if you are a sympathetic person as I am, you have to feel sorry for the Germans at the hands of the Russians, the amount of executions carried out on that game is appalling, whether you carry it out or not, you may just be playing the game as you want, I am not judging anyone.

If people are to advance in life with hate for an extinct group, that is fair enough. But do not take it out on the people outside that group and those who were also affected within who did not agree with its principles but had no other choice.

Again, as someone was earlier mentioning concerning the education in which we have grown up in respect to the Second World War. In England, we have been taught about the Holocaust so that it would never happen again, and it did in Rwanda, on a smaller scale obviously. We are then taught about the up rise of Hitler and the Nazi party, and the causes of the Second World War. But, we are not taught that Hitler is to blame, we are taught that in majority, the treaty of Versailles was the cause, as it ruined Germany’s economy and caused them to listen to Hitler. And a backing for the Germans not being completely heartless (Nazi's do not count for this, they have been covered), my mother’s fathers mother had sex with an unknown German officer, and she was English. He didn’t do anything else to her, as many might think so.

So please, don’t think about only your losses, but those of others also.

And copying what Plaxx said - thanks for any incoming hate mail.
