No one has convinced me yet that paying for XBox Live is worth it. PSN is free and offers me more than enough for online game play and PSN is being updated regularly through patches. I do not care about downloading movies. I can get them free from Lime Wire and store them on my PC if I wanted. I have wireless in my PS3. 360 you have to either use a cable direct from your PC or pay an extra $100 (price of two games) for WiFi. Live is also an additional $50 per year (price of a game)

You know what just pay a few bucks for a month's membership and see if you like it. Honestly why do people care which is better. I prefer live so what? Do I care if I pay 50$ no. If you go crazy over paying 50$ to play online then don't do it. Play on PSN as it has good online as well. And again this 250$ a year is kind of a joke. A lot of people will just pay for a few months when a new release hits and then freeze their subscription until another hit game comes out or until they get the urge to play online again. A lot of friends that I've met and played with on Live only pay monthly fees so that way if RL or something else draws them away from the console they will save a couple bucks. It's no different then taking off of WoW (which I did numerous times) or any other paid service.
Btw if the idea is so "bonkers" then why has it continually succeeded. Now that 2.4 came out, (loved the update) it's not like millions of XBL users are going to flock over to PSN. I'd rather pay my way (as long as the quality is there and it is) and support the service provider than be a draw down. It's kinda like all the unbalanced budgets that have happened in in the Presidential administrations. The nat'l debt is high and we, the taxpayers, are stuck with the bill. Not saying that its going to be the same but if the companies sink into the red enough they are going to have to make it up somehow and we are the ones that are buying their products. While a lot of people would go crazy if they did, but I wouldn't care if Sony charged me a small fee to play online.
I understand money is tight especially in the US, heck 50$ is a full or even half a gas tank for some. And if you have bills to pay thats understandable. The the idea of p2p is not ludicrous and it's certainly not going away. I think it's worth it but its up to you. Both systems are great and i'll continue to play them both.
Someone kill this topic...
Edit: im out for 2night Happy 4th for those of us in the US!!
